"Funders must practice what we preach, assess our own effectiveness with honesty, listen with humility, and change our behavior and practices accordingly." So says Barr Foundation's Yvonne Belanger as she shares insight into Barr's process of listening to and acting on grantee feedback, and how the GPR, over a number of years, has helped the Foundation find "meaningful progress" when it comes to impact on their grantees. Read it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eiHwHEr2 Thank you Barr Foundation and Yvonne for sharing your story! #blog #newblog #read #reading #feedback #listening #relationships #impact #socialimpact #funders #philanthropy #nonprofits

Center for Effective Philanthropy reposted this
Thank you Exponent Philanthropy for the opportunity to serve as the opening plenary speaker at last week's conference. I shared about the importance of 'Extraordinary Giving in Extraordinary Times.’ These times call for giving in courageous ways!

From assuming you as a donor have all the answers to fixating on 'overhead,' there are many examples of giving 'done wrong.' But what does giving 'done right' look like? Phil Buchanan gets into the nuanced answers to that question, the vital and often invisible role nonprofits play, and how everyday donors can make a difference in the latest episode of How to Money with Joel Larsgaard and Matt Altmix. Tune in for timely advice for the Giving Season (and to find out what shows Phil's eclectic music tastes take him to 🎧) 👇
Loved chatting with the How To Money guys about giving done right (and the last three concerts I’ve attended): https://lnkd.in/epESpq48

We're thrilled to welcome David McKinney to the CEP team! 🎉
Meet David McKinney, YouthTruth’s new Vice President! We asked David a few questions to get to know him better: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵? ’Exciting’ isn’t the right word, but it’s clear to me that during this time of immense disruption, anyone who cares about education and young people needs to be skilled at listening to students—deeply, routinely, and with a willingness to act. It’s a privilege and awesome responsibility to help schools make that happen. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Many of us have been working on changes we want to see in education for a long time. I’d say the two issues that feel particularly pressing right now are support for educators and reinvesting in civics education. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹? Truth be told, I didn’t have a great experience in school when I was a student. But the memories that stand out to me are when teachers showed me they cared and supported me, but held very high expectations for my success. Welcome, David! We are so thrilled to have you with us.
