We're excited to announce the inaugural grant recipients for The Cigna Group Health Equity Impact Fund. This program supports nonprofits working to reduce health disparities in our communities. Initial funding from The Cigna Group Foundation will go to organizations in Hartford, CT, and Houston, TX, for services like mobile health units, nutrition education for adults with diabetes, and pop-up grocery stores. There's a staggering cost to diabetes, due to the costs of ongoing medical care, medications like insulin, regular monitoring, managing complications like heart disease or kidney damage, and hospitalizations. #EachAndEvery

Social determinants of health (SDOH) can be as basic as where you live — like whether your neighborhood has safe sidewalks or places to exercise. For many, lack of access to safe spaces makes it hard to stay active. As a participant in our Community Health Worker pilot, “Alan” and his health worker embraced mall walking as a solution. He stayed active, avoided Houston’s hot and humid weather, and kept up his regular check-ins with his health worker. It’s a reminder that while SDOH shape 80% of health outcomes, they can be addressed with access to resources and a bit of creative, personalized support. https://bit.ly/40Trv4j #EachAndEvery

Sickle cell disease can affect daily life in unexpected ways, creating barriers that keep kids from everyday activities like swimming. But with the right opportunities, education, and awareness, we can help kids overcome these barriers. This summer, our Safe Swimming with Sickle Cell program helped 80 African American/Black kids with sickle cell disease learn to swim safely, while feeling supported, and connected. https://bit.ly/4e6n2yG #EachAndEvery
