We teach families & care providers how to support the skills not lost in dementia while preserving dignity and autonomy.
About us
The DAWN Method believes in preserving dignity and autonomy through aging in place. We do this by training families and caregivers in meeting the emotional needs and rational thought losses caused by dementia. The DAWN Method is a set of tools for caring for people with dementia. The DAWN Method seeks to help individuals with dementia live full and happy lives, and help their families experience less stress. The DAWN Method helps people with dementia develop a sense of security and wellbeing and lessens the distress caused by experiencing dementia. The DAWN mission is to help families and dementia caregivers provide better care so they experience less stress and can put off the expense of long-term care. We offer online dementia care training for families and their caregivers as well as dementia certification for agencies, care facilities, and professional dementia care specialists.

One of the most frustrating things about having #dementia is waking up one day and finding yourself unable to perform a task or use a skill that has been effortless since you were a child. Always be kind and compassionate. https://buff.ly/2KaYsT3 #Alzheimers #DementiaCare

Care partner: don't put me on the spot—don't test my failing memory and recall. I will feel safer with #dementia if you chatter to share information with me instead of questioning me. We'll both experience less stress if I feel safe being forgetful and confused when I'm with you.

"Amazing, life changing material. Judy teaches with such love and compassion. I wish we had known about this when my father had dementia. It would have made his last years so much easier and more peaceful, rather than filled with stress and strife." - J.S., professional caregiver & DDCS (Certified DAWN Dementia Care Specialist). Feeling safe with a #CareGiver requires their help in building trust in three key areas: I will need your help to feel safe even though I'm confused and forget things, need help with simple tasks, and see reality differently than you. Security brings peace. #dementia #Alzheimers

Do you really have to sit at home or in a care facility? Could you not take your companion out for a drive, out for a latte, to a quiet parking spot in a park to watch children play, or a bench in a crowded square to watch people? It’s emotionally painful for our brains to have too little sensory or social stimulation. Agitation, exit-seeking, combative behaviors aren’t really dementia behaviors; they’re the behaviors we humans exhibit when we’re feeling stressed or afraid or uneasy. #dementia #mindfulness #alzheimers #dementiacare #caregiving #dementiasupport https://buff.ly/4aYifyy

One of the most unkind things we can do to people who have #dementia is to keep them waiting. Dementia takes away the ability to perceive the passage of time—a minute or an hour can both feel eternal. Try to be punctual. https://buff.ly/2KaYsT3 #Alzheimers #DementiaCare

Dementia takes away abilities we've relied on all our lives and insecurity results. We can help our companions relearn safety despite confusion and to trust others for care. We can do this because #dementia doesn't take away the intuitive or the ability to learn thru experience.

“This course is so comprehensive, I feel like I have been given the tools to bring joy and security and much more to my friend with #dementia. The website is easy to navigate and I am part of a care team trying to encourage other friends and family to take the #course. It is definitely a unique situation for a person to be in and you cannot just apply parenting or relationship skills to it– this course is the key to less frustration and feelings of hopelessness for both #caregiver and person with dementia. Thank you!” ~ Ele S. (customer review) Sign up for the DAWN Online Video Course: https://buff.ly/3INY4GE #dementiaCare #class #videos #Alzheimers #AlzheimersCare
