Natasha Rainey, I could not have said it better. I am grateful for organizations like The Diversity Movement, which has a great Diversity Holidays Calendar that is free and easy to download and integrate. My inquiring mind wants to know how integrating these cultural moments, which are important to many humans, represents a significant sustainability challenge when an org works so hard to assure us of its prowess in terms of artificial intelligence. It's just like a Gemini to be of two minds 👀 .
If your promise to include everyone fades when it’s hard, it was never a promise—just a marketing stunt. Google just deleted Pride Month, Black History Month, and cultural celebrations from its calendar. Calling manual adding “not sustainable.” Read that again. A tech giant—worth hundreds of billions, pioneering AI and shaping the digital future—can’t ‘sustain’ basic cultural recognitions in their calendar. But here’s what they are sustaining: 📌 Data collection at an unprecedented scale 📌 AI advancements that automate nearly everything 📌 The ability to influence what the world sees, values, and remembers Yet, honoring cultural moments? Suddenly “too much work.” This isn’t just about a calendar. It’s about what businesses choose to sustain—and what they choose to erase. When companies remove cultural observances, they send a clear message: 🚨 Visibility is optional. 🚨 Inclusion is expendable. 🚨 Diversity is a checkbox, not a commitment. But what if we did things differently? 💡 What would it look like if companies treated inclusion as essential, not expendable? What if honoring diverse communities wasn’t the first thing to go—but the foundation of how businesses operate? The companies that truly lead aren’t the ones who scale back inclusion when it’s inconvenient. They’re the ones who double down when it matters most. ♻️ Repost if you believe inclusion isn’t just for when it’s easy. And follow me (Natasha Rainey) for more. - - P.S.
