Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the Aston University, has been awarded the GFCC Global Competitiveness Award in recognition of his transformational leadership in Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, during the University and Research Leadership Forum Dialogue in Birmingham. This award honors leaders who bring new models of collaboration, policy, and community impact that elevate competitiveness, sustainability, and inclusive prosperity. Deborah L. Under his leadership, Aston is creating the Birmingham Innovation Quarter and the Aston Health Services Hub, building an ecosystem that integrates professional practice, interdisciplinary learning, and health services. Today marks the start of an exciting journey for us. At our first Leadership Dialogue on Universities 4.0 and Their Role in Driving Place-Based Innovation and Socio-Economic Transformation hosted at Aston University, we proudly signed an MoU with our members— Aston University, UC San Diego, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and Queen's University Belfast—to launch the Global Centre for Innovation Leadership. This new Centre will: ➡️ Lead collaborative efforts to drive place-based innovation. ➡️ Serve as a hub for thought leadership in innovation and place-making. ➡️ Offer specialized courses in innovation leadership, policy, and technologies. ➡️ Organize study tours and thematic workshops. ➡️ Produce case studies and publish insightful materials that spotlight our areas of focus. With this bold step, we are building a future where universities are catalysts of place-based innovation. We will shortly come back with more information on how to participate. Please stay tuned!
