  • Symbols have the power to connect us—not only to each other but to the deepest parts of ourselves and our shared human heritage. In Laurence Barrett’s thought-provoking article, Symbols and Reconnection: Why Jung Matters, he delves into the profound legacy of Carl Jung. Barrett explores how the archetypes and symbols embedded in our collective unconscious influence our personal growth, relationships, and even creative endeavors. Jung’s insights challenge us to look beyond the rational, to embrace the symbolic, and to discover meaning in life’s mysterious patterns. There are a number of benefits we can retain from exploring symbols and developing an eye for it including → Discover hidden meanings → Connect with the past → Unlock personal growth → Gain deeper insights → Enhance creativity → Foster self-awareness → Strengthen relationships → Embrace transformation These are some ways understanding the symbols in our own lives can transform our relationships and unlock our potential. What symbols have shaped your story? • Labels define boundaries. Metaphors create frameworks, and together, they shape how we understand the world—and the work we do within it. But as technology blurs the line between human and machine effort, we’re hurtling toward a singularity in work. Work, once a means of survival and community, has morphed into an identity-defining force—a distant, hierarchical system where many of us play tenant to invisible landlords. This system isolates, specialises, and disconnects us from the essence of what we create. Yet, in the chaos of change lies opportunity: the New Artisans, coined by Richard Merrick. To him, they are the rebels, creators, and visionaries who reject reductive systems. For them, work is mastery, self-expression, and community. From coders crafting revolutionary software to activists shaping societal change, their impact transcends hierarchies, reuniting head, heart, and hand in their craft. How can we reclaim our work as a relationship, not a transaction? In a world racing toward efficiency, is it time we pause and ask: What does it mean to create something truly meaningful? To find out more, you can access Richard’s full article in our Reconnection 2023 edition titled “The New Artisans: A metaphor for the post pandemic workplace” here https://lnkd.in/gW8ggbvf #theheretic #reconnection #publishing #independentmagazine

  • Reverie is an open, reciprocal exchanges in personal growth and organisational health. In childhood, reverie shapes our ability to build relationships, think creatively, and feel valued. Throughout life, it helps us co-create meaning, connect with others, and explore new ideas. In contrast, many organisations rely on top-down leadership, alienating employees by ignoring their input and imposing visions disconnected from their realities. This approach discourages engagement, as people naturally crave acknowledgment and collaboration. Leaders often resist reverie out of fear of ambiguity, losing control, or confronting dissent. However, reverie fosters innovation and alignment by prioritising listening, mutual respect, and shared meaning-making. Leadership isn’t about imposing answers but creating spaces for dialogue and discovery. When people feel heard and included, they thrive, and so do the organisations they’re part of. You can read the full article titled “Reverie and the key to engagement” featured in our Emergence 2022 edition here https://lnkd.in/gUdesQz9 You can find this article along with others in our Foundations (2020 - 2022) edition here https://lnkd.in/gW8ggbvf #theheretic #engagement #publishing #independentmagazine #reverie

  • Our world is filled with paradoxes that we consciously ore unconsciously create, yet we consistently fail to see them: - We demand change but cling to comfort. - We judge by appearances, not substance. - We want cheap, fast products but hate impossible standards. - We push for AI but fear job loss. - We criticize, yet we are the architects of our problems. In his article “The reflective human: a journey through our self perpetuated paradoxes”, Kwame Kwarteng emphasises the importance of self-reflection becomes in recognising our double standards and understanding our role in creating these issues. Embracing introspection becomes key to breaking the cycle. Our actions shape our reality, and by acknowledging our part, we can pave the way for a kinder, more understanding world.
