Experienced HR Leader, supporting SMEs to attract and retain the best people

Yesterday, I made the annual trip to Braemar to visit the special place my Dads ashes are scattered. It’s a trip we do every year, we take some whisky and chat to him about what’s going on. It’s a lovely thing I do with my mum and brother. As we drove through the towns of Aberdeenshire, I loved to see all of the poppy installations. Aboyne was my particular favourite. My youngest son has just returned from a trip to the battlefields in France and he brought me back this lovely poppy necklace ❤️. The poppy is such a beautiful symbol of remembrance and resilience and hope. It was touching to see so many young people pay their respect. I also think the poppy is a great metaphor for the coaching process , its resilience is a lesson for us all and a reminder of growth through challenge. #aberdeenshire #resilience #growth #coaching #remembrance

According to a report by BCG, It suggested that nearly half of the global workforce is grappling with burnout. Even more interestingly, its research highlighted that burnout is also correlated with low feelings of inclusion. It suggested that there are 4 factors that can support an employees overall sense of inclusion. Resources Senior management support Psychological safety with manager Fair and equal opportunity for success Now when I’m feeling the effects of burnout , I head to the beach! Getting outside, feeling the wind in your hair can do wonders for perspective. If you would like to chat about whether you’re providing the optimal environment to prevent employee burnout. Bruce Springsteen, how outsourced HR should be. Reliable, compassionate, informed and value for money. I always get asked how many times I have seen Springsteen. And my answer is always the same, not enough! ✅ Reliable, when you go to a Springsteen gig you know that you’re going to get the best version of him. Even if the rain is biblical and the equipment is wet, he shows up with professionalism and enthusiasm. ❤️ Compassionate, he has managed to navigate this imperfect world , remains true to his values and speaks out on the things that matter to him, in a way that is neutral , non threatening and inspiring. 🧐Informed, he is curious, remains interested in the human condition and its surrounding environment. Able to cut though the noise and get to the heart of a matter and offer solutions to the problems we face. 🙌🏻 Value for money - he shows up and delivers 3.5 hours of his best performance, every single time. He is consistent and you feel like you have an invested your time well. And he is 74!!! Now I’m a way off 74, but I like to think that The HR Dept Aberdeenshire is reliable, compassionate , informed and value for money. Day 3 of The HR Dept Aberdeenshire and I was privileged to spend the first 2 days at The HR Dept national conference. What a great way to kick start the business. The welcome was so warm and inviting, meeting lots of other licensees who were so encouraging . Hearing about their journeys of business ownership, everyone has their own motivations and ways of running their business. It’s reassuring , there is no right path! Sally Gunnell OBE provided a strong reminder of the importance of mindset, the key to unlocking all successes. Finally, it was great to be reunited with my friend and colleague Kim Hunter Chartered MCIPD MBA , who encouraged me to embark on this journey ❤️ #HumanResources #SME #consultancy #aberdeenshire

Have you ever had a dream that you didn’t want to wake up from? 7 years since Dad passed away. Days when I wake, and have had a dream about him are the best and worst. The best because he is there and I’m talking to him, the worst because I wake up and remember he is not here. Dad was a massive influence in my life and so when his anniversary approaches , I find myself in conversation with him about what I’m doing and where I am going. Dad was my biggest supporter, he was always right, even when he was wrong 🤣, a trait I see in my oldest son and one that I work hard to temper in myself. Those Ironside genes are strong 🤣 But that stubbornness brings a determination and that’s something that has served me well over the last 2 years of business ownership. Luckily I am also like mum and strive every day to listen, care and empathise. My mum is the most caring person I know, always putting people first. I’ve always believed that when we in Business put people first, profits follow… and with that people first ethos, I’m building on the success of Bagamoyo by expanding my business offering to include HR outsourced services for SMEs with The HR Dept Aberdeenshire, in the place I am incredibly proud to have called home my entire life. #SME #HumanResources #Business #people
