Lawrence Group designed a second behavioral health urgent care center in partnership with SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. The new center, located on South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis, provides a safe haven dedicated to mental health and psychiatric patients, reducing the strain on traditional emergency rooms. Patients can access same-day care from mental health professionals and receive medical attention without the need for prior appointments. Unlike typical urgent care facilities, this center offers a comfortable, therapeutic environment specifically tailored to patients requiring immediate mental health care. Features such as group therapy rooms, exam rooms, and long-acting injectable (LAI) rooms enable the facility to accommodate a wide range of psychiatric needs of all ages, including long-term treatments for conditions like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. We congratulate our project partner, Alberici Constructors, on being recognized as a finalist for the Construction Leadership Council - AGCMO Keystone Award for this impactful project. #LawrenceGroup #LG40years #healthcaredesign #behavioralhealth #urgentcare #patientcentered #healthcare

Throughout 2024, we saw a rise of smart building materials requested in projects. Proponents of smart building materials envision a future in which materials like self-cleaning paint and self-healing concrete essentially help a building play a role in its own maintenance. More commonly used smart materials include light-reactive glass and other systems that conserve energy by responding to their environment. For example, the Williams Village East Residence Hall at the University of Colorado Boulder includes skylights that darken or lighten depending on the season and time of day. In addition, student rooms in Williams Village East have heating and cooling systems that automatically shut off when windows are opened. Vacancy sensors in the rooms turn off lights and adjust the temperature when students leave the room. We appreciate Ray Wong and the Lawrence Group for being such an instrumental part in our final design jury for Sheila Jones Bosch, PhD healthcare-focused design studio! #UFINDemand
🌟 Inspired by the Next Generation of Designers at UF 🌟 As a proud University of Florida alumnus, it was a tremendous honor to’ve been recently invited to return to Gainesville and participate in the final design jury for Sheila Jones Bosch, PhD healthcare-focused design studio. Sharing my experience and insights with these talented students was incredibly rewarding, and seeing their growth since the midterm review was truly inspiring. I, and my Lawrence Group colleagues, are deeply committed to fostering and developing the next generation of design talent in every region we serve. Collaboration between architecture and design firms and institutions like the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning is critical in shaping the future of our profession. I was impressed by the students’ passion, creativity, and dedication. Their thoughtful presentations, innovative ideas, and eagerness to engage in meaningful dialogue showcased the extraordinary talent emerging from this program. 🎨📐 A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Sheila Bosch, Assistant Professor Dr. Shabboo Valipoor, the UF Department of Interior Design, DCP faculty and staff, my fellow jurors, and, most importantly, the students for making this experience unforgettable. Lawrence Group, my colleagues, and I, remain steadfast in supporting educational and community partnerships wherever we live, work, and play. 🌟 #LawrenceGroup #TheLawrenceGroup #LG40Years #UF #InteriorDesign #Architecture #DesignEducation #HealthcareDesign #LawrenceGroup #GatorNation #InspiringTheFuture #ArchitectsOfTomorrow #UFInteriorDesign #DesignReview #StudentSuccess #NextGenDesigners #CommunityPartnerships #ArchitectureEducation #InteriorDesignStudio #HealthcareArchitecture #UFAlumni #Collaboration #DesignInnovation #BuildingTheFuture

On Friday November 8, 2024, I had the privilege of moderating the MOSHE panel on Construction Projects: Best Practices and Lessons Learned. I want to extend my gratitude to the panelists Katlyn Howard, Christopher Viviano, Phillip Lee, and Erica McAllister and to MU Healthcare for hosting this outstanding event. The discussions were insightful and provided several key takeaways: "90-Day Live-In Directive" Katlyn Howard from MU Healthcare introduced the concept of a "90-Day Live-In Directive." This approach encourages users to fully utilize their new spaces for 90 days before submitting change requests. While significant flaws or issues are addressed promptly, the directive minimizes premature changes driven by users' initial discomfort or desire to replicate previous workflows. Over time, users typically adapt to the new environment, reducing unnecessary modifications and controlling post-project costs. Identifying Shutdown Areas in Design Documents: During the Q&A, the importance of clearly identifying shutdown areas and systems in design documents for renovation projects was emphasized. This practice ensures that healthcare facilities teams and contractors are adequately informed about critical system shutdowns and notification requirements. Developing a roadmap or matrix for these shutdowns can streamline coordination and reduce risks during construction. Consistent Communication and Team Continuity: A recurring theme throughout the session was the necessity of clear communication and team continuity. Retaining the same key personnel from all teams across the project's lifecycle helps prevent breakdowns in communication and knowledge transfer. Frequent changes in points of contact often lead to miscommunication, rework, and project delays. Realistic Budgets and Schedules: The panel highlighted the need for organizational leadership to set realistic budgets and schedules. While aggressive timelines may seem advantageous initially, they can result in team fatigue and compromises in project quality. Similarly, setting an inadequate budget from the outset often leads to challenges in delivering critical project features, ultimately hindering the project’s success. This discussion was a valuable learning experience, providing practical strategies to improve project outcomes. Thank you again to all involved! #LawrenceGroup #Healthcare #Design

Community-centered design is a defining trend in architecture for 2024, with a focus on spaces that foster social connection and integrate seamlessly into their surroundings. Lawrence Group designed Epoque Golden, a 55+ luxury apartment community thoughtfully designed to enhance wellness and support an active lifestyle. Nestled at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it offers extensive indoor and outdoor areas where residents can take in stunning mountain views. These views become a central gathering feature, connecting residents, whether they’re in social spaces or enjoying a quiet moment in nature. This project was named the winner of the 2020 NAHB Developer in the Best 55+ Multi Family Development.
