For Met Security Officer Armia Malak Khalil, it started as just another day—until a chance encounter and a friendly conversation led to something unexpected. Now, his art is featured in "Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now." As Armia puts it, “Magic happened here.” See #MetFlightIntoEgypt now through February 17.

About us
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as The Met, presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy. The Museum lives in two iconic sites in New York City—The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters. Millions of people also take part in The Met experience online. Since its founding in 1870, The Met has aspired to be more than a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment with a staff as diverse as the audiences we engage. Our staff members are art lovers who are passionate about working toward a common goal: creating the most dynamic and inspiring art museum in the world. Mission: The Met’s mission is to collect, study, conserve, and present significant works of art across time and cultures in order to connect all people to creativity, knowledge, ideas, and one another. Every day, art comes alive in the Museum's galleries and through its exhibitions and events, revealing both new ideas and unexpected connections across time and across cultures. At The Met, every staff member lives by the core values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration, excellence, and integrity. If you share our community’s values, please apply to one of our exciting opportunities!

"It reminds me how small I am, but also how miraculous this life is." — Death doula Alua Arthur on encountering Caspar David Friedrich’s "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog." OPENING SOON—"Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature" is the first comprehensive U.S. exhibition dedicated to the artist. Friedrich reimagined European landscape painting, capturing nature as a space for deep spiritual and emotional experiences. A leading figure of German Romanticism, he emphasized our connection to the natural world. His landscapes are meditative, mysterious, and full of wonder. Organized with the Alte Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, and Hamburger Kunsthalle, the exhibition features 75 works by Friedrich, with unprecedented loans from over 30 lenders in Europe and North America. Experience #MetCasparDavidFriedrich at The Met from February 8 to May 11. 🎨 Caspar David Friedrich (German, 1774-1840). Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, ca. 1817. Oil on canvas.
