Meta expected its spending in 2025 to increase to an estimated $60 to $65 billion, Mark Zuckerberg said. Much of that money will go building and expanding data centers, the warehouse-size buildings that provide the computing power that fuels Meta’s A.I. products and algorithms.

The U.S. oil industry is pumping more than ever with only about three-quarters as many workers as it employed a decade ago. This raises the specter of further job losses, even as President-elect Trump urges companies to “drill, baby, drill.”

With President-elect Trump returning to the White House, media outlets large and small are taking steps to prepare for what they fear could be a legal and political onslaught against them from the new administration and Trump’s allies inside and outside the government. While Trump is prone to hyperbole and saber-rattling, many reporters, editors and media lawyers are taking him seriously. As a result, even before he returns to power, Trump is altering how the press is operating. “We’re like the people who hear that a hurricane or tsunami is coming, but we don’t know where it’s going to land or how strong it’s going to be,” said George Freeman, the executive director of the Media Law Resource Center, which supports news outlets in legal matters.

The number of people living in the average American home is shrinking, according to a report from Realtor.com, leaving many homes with more bedrooms than they need. Researchers found that the number and share of “excess bedrooms” reached a record high in 2023, with 31.9 million — up slightly from 31.3 million in 2022. In 1970, the number was a little over 4 million. The share of excess bedrooms among all bedrooms has also ballooned over the decades, from 2.7% in 1970 to 8.8% in 2023.
