The New Zealand Medical Journal (NZMJ) were delighted to host the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) this week here in Auckland, New Zealand. This is an annual collective gathering of representatives of national and international medical journals worldwide. The ICMJE use this meeting to work on the recommendations for the conduct, reporting, editing and publication of scholarly work in medical journals.

Prof David R Murdoch is a co-author of this publication’s editorial, Pandemic prevention, preparedness and response: are we better off now than pre-COVID?, published with the purpose of preparing nations for future pandemics and other infectious diseases alongside Sir Ashley Bloomfield. Prof Murdoch is based at the University of Otago in Christchurch and has a background specialising in infections with an interest in a wide range of infectious diseases. Prof Murdoch is also the Chief Science advisor for the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IOES).
