On Wednesday, a subtle but significant change will appear on The Oregonian’s front page. The volume number will turn from 174 to 175, meaning we enter our 175th year of continuous publishing. Thanks to the prescience of our company leadership, we’ve built a large enough audience across all platforms to sustain a robust newsroom of about 70 journalists. 🥛 Albertina Kerr has a legacy of viewing philanthropic causes with a ‘glass half full’ perspective. #ICYDK, the local nonprofit was named after its founder, Albertina Kerr, who was the wife of the Kerr family’s glass manufacturing company owner. More importantly, they are one of Portland’s oldest philanthropic organizations, focusing on the health and wellbeing of children and families facing developmental and mental health challenges since 1907. They are also the second nonprofit that The Oregonian / OregonLive.com #SeasonofSharing campaign has highlighted. Bradley Angle extends compassion and care to LGBTQ+ people facing crisis this Season of Sharing 2024. "The nonprofit was founded in 1975, and was the first domestic violence shelter on the West Coast. The late Bonnie Tinker was the first founding director of Bradley-Angle House, as it was then known. The grassroots organization was named after Sharon Bradley and Pam Angle, two women who, as interim CEO Margot Martin said, "lost their lives on the street, because they were survivors of domestic violence who had nowhere to go.'"
