In this thoughtful new article, Dave Ulrich reflects on key themes shaping the HR landscape today and outlines four strategic agendas that will evolve the profession towards creating stakeholder value through #HumanCapability. Whether you're looking for inspiration or actionable insights, this piece will spark ideas for how we can all shape the future of #HR. What do you see as the most critical focus areas for HR in the coming year?
Speaker, Author, Professor, Thought Partner on Human Capability (talent, leadership, organization, HR)
As I reflect on the various podcasts and interviews I've been invited to and participated in recently about HR's future, a simple yet powerful question keeps surfacing: "What's on your mind lately?" This question - which I often ask friends I haven't seen in a while - helps us understand where we've been (what's so), where we are (now what), and where we're heading in HR (what's next). In this article, I explore how two major global HR conferences and numerous thought leadership pieces reveal both the richness and challenges of our field. While we see incredible innovation in talent management and AI, I propose four crucial agenda items that will help evolve HR toward creating stakeholder value through human capability. What strikes me is that while we have abundant insights and innovations in HR, we need to shift our focus from just doing HR work to delivering measurable stakeholder value. The evidence shows that organizational capability has 4x more impact on results than individual talent efforts alone - yet most of our field remains heavily focused on talent. I invite you to join this important conversation: How do you see HR evolving to create more value for all stakeholders? What shifts in focus would help your HR function have greater impact? Let's explore together how we can move HR forward with purpose and impact. #HR #FutureOfWork #Leadership #HumanCapability #Talent #Organization

Mental health has become one of the most pressing challenges facing organizations today, with depression and anxiety costing $1 trillion annually in lost productivity. But what if hope could be an additional insight to transforming employee experience and creating sustainable value? Together with my wife Wendy Ulrich, a psychologist (PhD), author (7 books), speaker, and consultant, I'm exploring in today's newsletter how hope represents the next evolution in employee experience. Drawing from psychology, organizational research, and our combined expertise, we outline six principles that define hopeful organizations and seven practical skills leaders can master to cultivate hope in for themselves, their teams, and organizations. I invite you to read our analysis and share: How do you see hope shaping the future of employee experience? What practices have you found effective in building hope within your organization?
