About us
The Resume Clinic provides targeted resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile development services by certified resume professionals. Since 1995, we have helped professionals in all fields move to the head of the interview stack by developing personal marketing documents that speak to their reader’s specific needs. ✯✯Why The Resume Clinic?✯✯ ✍ You get personalized service, with direct contact with your writer at all phases of the project. Our “direct writer contact” approach means you avoid vital concepts being lost in translation ✍ We maintain a small writing team, which means optimal quality control and writing consistency. Additionally each of us is certified (hold the CPRW designation) with at least 12 years of resume writing experience, along with being FULL-TIME professional resume writers. Many companies offer a random mix of certified and non-certified writers on their rolls, meaning you may not always end up with someone trained in generating a quality resume and cover letter package that engages the reader. ✍ We are not a “resume mill” with dozens and dozens of writers cranking out templated work in a matter of minutes. Our process involves carefully researching your goal to determine the resume’s encompassing strategy. We write “for the goal”, as opposed to just laying out your experience. Remember, you are not “buying a resume”, you are seeking a tool that consistently gets you into the interview door. ✍ We maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau’s Online Reliability Program. Loyalty can be a great thing ... until it starts holding you back. When it comes to your career, being too loyal to your employer can actually do more harm than good. The truth is, companies aren’t built to be loyal to you. By design, their loyalty is to shareholders or ownership, right? Everyone else? We’re just cogs in the machine. Think about it. While your company might only hand out cost-of-living raises (if they’re even doing that), moving to a new employer for the same job can often mean a much bigger pay bump. Why? Because companies will pay top dollar to attract new talent, but they rarely spend the same energy—or money—on the people they already have. Staying in one spot too long can put your salary behind market value, and that gap just gets bigger over time. When you reset your salary by switching jobs, you’re not just getting more money now—you’re setting yourself up for better raises down the road. Every future percentage increase builds on that higher base salary. Over the course of your career, those jumps can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Staying loyal to a company that isn’t helping you grow financially can cost you big time. And let’s not kid ourselves: a pizza party or a “you’re like family to us” speech doesn’t make you irreplaceable. You’re not. No matter how good you are at your job, if push came to shove, the company wouldn’t think twice about replacing you. It’s not personal—it’s just business. That’s why I always tell my clients: start looking for your next job the day you accept your current one. Companies look out for their bottom line, and you should be doing the same for yourself. Your loyalty belongs to your family, your goals, and your bank account—not your employer. Trust me, the company’s not going to lose sleep over it. Your career is your responsibility. So don’t let misplaced loyalty hold you back. Keep your options open, know your worth, and don’t hesitate to make a move when it’s time. You’re the only one who’s going to prioritize your success—so make it count. #Careers #CareerDevelopment #JobSearch #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerAdvice

Soft Skills in the Workplace Hard skills might get you in the door, but it’s the “soft” skills that keep you there. Communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and problem-solving often separate good employees from great ones. These skills can't be automated or outsourced—they define how you connect, lead, and grow in your role. Don't underestimate the impact of a well-timed empathetic response or a creative solution to a recurring problem. Employers value team players who can navigate challenges with finesse and elevate their teams. So, if you’re working on your next resume update or interview prep, remember: showcasing the application of a few “soft” skills may be your secret weapon. Just don’t overdo it to the point of overshadowing the hard skills necessary for the job. #SoftSkillsMatter #EmotionalIntelligence #CareerGrowth #TeamworkWins #AdaptToThrive

Stop Waiting for Permission to Grow One of the biggest mistakes I see professionals make is waiting for someone else to open the door to their next opportunity. Waiting for a boss to notice their hard work. Waiting for an HR department to offer them a raise. Waiting for the “perfect time” to make a career move. (Waiting, waiting, waiting …) Some truth medicine for ya: if you’re waiting for permission to grow, you might be waiting forever. Growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you take charge of your career. It happens when you: 🏁 Ask for what you want: Whether it’s a promotion, a stretch project, or a raise, make your goals known. Nobody can advocate for you better than you can. 🏁 Invest in your future: Take the class, earn the certification, or attend the conference. The skills you build today are the foundation for tomorrow’s success. 🏁 Evaluate your path: Are you where you want to be? If not, it might be time to update your resume and start exploring what’s out there. 🏁 Take risks: The best opportunities often come with a little uncertainty. Don’t let fear hold you back from pursuing what you deserve. I’ve seen too many people let fear, doubt, or complacency hold them back from their potential. But the ones who thrive are the ones who stop waiting and start acting. So, here’s my challenge to you: What’s one thing you can do this week to take ownership of your growth? Your career is YOURS. Don’t wait for permission to make it extraordinary. #careers #leadership #opportunity

Understanding Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) I know it can be a drag, but simply having an "impressive" resume isn’t enough. If your resume isn’t optimized for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), it might never reach a hiring manager’s desk. With over 75% of recruiters and employers relying on ATS software to manage incoming applications, making your resume ATS-friendly is no longer just a good idea—it’s essential. 🤔 What exactly is ATS? ATS software automates the initial stage of the hiring process, filtering out resumes that don’t match predefined criteria. This can include specific keywords, experience, qualifications, and other factors tailored to the job. The goal is to identify candidates whose resumes closely align with the job posting, but the challenge is ensuring your resume doesn’t get lost in the process. Here are some key strategies to improve your resume’s compatibility with ATS: ✅ Use standard fonts and formats. ATS software is designed to read text efficiently, so using widely accepted fonts such as Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri helps ensure your content is interpreted accurately. Avoid images, charts, and excessive graphics that can confuse the system. ✅ Align your keywords with the job posting. The importance of tailoring your resume cannot be overstated. ATS systems are programmed to scan for specific keywords that match the job description. Review the posting carefully, identify core skills and qualifications, and incorporate these keywords naturally throughout your resume. Be strategic—focus on relevant industry terms and avoid keyword stuffing. ✅ Simplify your formatting. Complex formatting, overly-complex tables, and unconventional layouts can cause ATS systems to misinterpret or skip sections of your resume. Use clear section headers such as “Peofesaional Experience,” “Technical Skills,” and “Education.” Consistent formatting ensures the software reads your resume in the correct order, improving your chances of moving forward in the hiring process. ✅ Use the right file type. Most ATS platforms work best with Word documents (.docx) rather than PDFs. Some systems struggle with interpreting PDFs, so when in doubt, stick with Word. Remember: Getting through ATS is just the first hurdle. Your resume needs to pass this automated filter to even have a chance of being seen by a human. Unfortunately, even the most qualified candidates can be overlooked if their resumes don’t meet ATS standards. So, have you optimized your resume for ATS? It can make all the difference between being filtered out and moving forward in the process. #ATSTips #ResumeOptimization #HiringProcess #JobSeeker #Recruitment ♻️ Want more content such as this?
