This year’s COP marked a pivotal moment in our global fight against climate change. Yet, there is one area where we are backsliding: food systems. To reduce emissions while building a nourishing and sustainable food supply, we need to stop cutting climate financing for food systems. As we look ahead, we urge global leaders to prioritize food systems in the climate agenda. Together, we can ensure a more resilient, abundant, and secure future—for our planet and for generations to come. 🌍 Read Sara Farley’s Perspectives blog to better understand the intersection of climate financing and food systems: https://lnkd.in/eJZ4SaYJ

Today, on #COP29 Indigenous People, Nature, and Biodiversity Day, we are underscoring the instrumental role of Indigenous leadership in regenerative agriculture and sustainable food systems. COP-16, the 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference, was a pivotal moment— the first “People’s COP” that placed Indigenous wisdom and leadership at the core of global efforts to fight climate change and biodiversity loss. Indigenous practices provide regenerative, time-tested approaches to land stewardship that industrialized systems have frequently overlooked. Together, through sustained investment and meaningful collaboration with local communities, we can protect our planet for generations to come. 🌍 Read John de la Parra's full blog here to better understand our commitment to elevating local voices: https://lnkd.in/dYAqJ5bm

Today, on #COP29 Indigenous People, Nature, and Biodiversity Day, we announced a $500,000 grant to Health In Harmony, a global climate nonprofit that collaborates with Indigenous Peoples and local communities to scale investments and implement their environmental solutions. 🌳🤝 This grant will: 🌎Strengthen the link between environmental conservation and human health by partnering with rainforest communities. 🌎Mobilize private sector resources for people-centered climate solutions, with a focus on nature dependencies and frontline communities. 🌎Support market infrastructure to drive adoption and integrity of climate and nature solutions in the Brazilian Amazon. Together we can continue investing in nature to help protect and preserve ecosystems while accelerating a green transition that centers people and communities. This week at the #G20 Leaders’ Summit, governments, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, and philanthropic organizations announced a major push to expand school meal programs, aiming to reach 150 million children in low- and middle-income countries by 2030 – highlighting the critical role of school meal programs in addressing hunger and poverty. To accelerate progress toward eradicating poverty and achieving zero hunger, the G20 Brasil 2024 Presidency has officially launched the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to join this initiative to advance climate-resilient school meals. School meals are a proven solution, improving nutrition, health, education, and gender equality by reducing dropout rates, especially among girls. But it can also be a climate and economic solution, improving food systems and spurring growth. We’re committed to supporting climate-resilient, sustainable food systems that are healthy, accessible, and good for the planet. 🌍 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYs3ukTf #G20Brazil2024 #G20LeadersSummit
