“We’re not looking for an apology. We’re looking for justice.” -- Simon Law Attorney Johnny Simon tells NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. Simon Law along with Attorney Ben Crump are representing Hanan Shaheen, a Palestinian American mother who was allegedly stabbed by her neighbor in a Chicago suburb. Her 6-year-old son, Wadee Alfayoumi, was killed in the attack. Authorities have said Shaheen and her son were targeted because of their Islamic faith shortly after Hamas attacked southern Israel Oct. 7, 2023. https://shorturl.at/4GhE1

A recent study has found that battery-related injuries and deaths in children have more than doubled in the last decade – and batteries the size of buttons are largely to blame. Button batteries are about the size of a quarter or smaller, and can be found in car key fobs, watches, cards and other toys – and can cause serious damage if a child accidentally swallows one. Such was the case for a Missouri first grader this past Christmas season. She accidentally swallowed a button battery that was made for a custom-watch her grandmother gave her for her birthday, and suffered serious injuries, according to KSDK. Simon Law is now representing the family of a child who died after ingesting one of these types of batteries and is accepting additional cases involving button batteries. And it doesn’t have to happen. https://ow.ly/Z2yN50V6w5r

Simon Law Attorney Liz Lenivy joined Fox 2's Ask the Expert segment to discuss Important Questions To Ask When Hiring A Birth Injury Lawyer. One of the most frequently-asked questions Lenivy says she gets from potential clients is a question any good personal injury attorney should never be able to answer during an initial meeting: How much is the case worth? “It should be a red flag when an attorney gives you a number for your personal injury case right away,” Lenivy said. “A good trial attorney knows that we can`t begin to evaluate the potential compensation one may be entitled to until we investigate the case, and even then, a good trial attorney knows to never make a guarantee.`” Read/watch the interview here: https://ow.ly/yiW650V5HAX

Shout out to McKinley Leadership Academy High School's Mock Trial Team for competing in their first mock trial competition! The competition, hosted by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, invites several high schools in the St. Louis area to compete and provides the fact-pattern from which the students must prepare two trials as both attorneys and witnesses. This year the students were given a fact-pattern for a criminal trial, so they presented a prosecution case and a defense case over two nights of intense competition. This was McKinley’s first year competing in the The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis's tournament. The students prepared for several months leading up to it. The team narrowly lost their first round trial but won their second! The team was coached by McKinley teacher Dr. Deborah Schmidt and Simon Law attorneys Liz Lenivy and Elizabeth McNulty. Congratulations McKinley on a job well done!

Simon Law clients were recently featured in this moving piece by KSDK News to raise awareness about underride crashes, which happen when vehicles slide underneath semis due to faulty guards that are supposed to prevent it from happening during collisions. We always admire the courage of our clients to effect change. This case resulted in a $462 million verdict. https://shorturl.at/72uzs
