About us

The Solutions Project funds and amplifies grassroots climate justice solutions across the US and Puerto Rico, especially those created by Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, women, and other people of color-led organizations. We operate as a national intermediary dedicated to improving the material conditions of the people directly impacted by the climate crisis, who we believe play a central role in finding and scaling solutions. We make grants to over 140 organizations closest to the problems created by pollution and climate change, amplifying the ideas and energy of those on the frontlines. We use culture, policy, and media as a strategy to bring focus and attention to what is working and what is not. The current moment appeals to philanthropy to be more attuned and holistic in its approach. To recognize interconnectedness, and to be in deeper service of communities. This is the type of philanthropy we embody. We envision a world where everyone has affordable housing, meaningful work, and a healthy place to live. A world created for the people, by the people. 100% for 100%. We make grants to the dozens of organizations closest to the problems of and solutions to pollution and climate change. We also help our partners tell their stories in the media so people everywhere can see what's working in the most unlikely of places. Finally, we get the best climate solutions in front of decision makers in government, business, and philanthropy so they put their money behind what works. Let's create the future we want!

  • #ICYMI: Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of our incredible grantee partner UPROSE, was featured in Atmos' Top 2024 Climate Wins for her leadership in a groundbreaking initiative to bring clean, sustainable energy to the people of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. In a powerful move for climate justice, UPROSE secured a community-owned solar array that will provide clean energy to local residents and businesses. Over the course of the project, approximately 150 households are set to save a total of $1.24 million on energy costs! This is exactly the kind of climate solution that puts people first, especially those most affected by climate change 🌍💡 #TheSolutionsProject #ClimateJustice #LetsCreateTheFuture

  • In the heart of Chicago’s South Side, Naomi Davis is pioneering the creation of the Sustainable Square Mile – a walk-to-work, walk-to-shop, walk-to-learn, and walk-to-play village where African Americans own the businesses, own the land, and live the ‘conservation lifestyle’ – where households produce their own energy, grow their own food, clean their own water, and recycle their own waste. Inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of her grandmother and Great Migration families who laid the foundation for thriving Black communities across America, Naomi aims to reinvent underserved places today using their 8 Principles of Green-Village-Building and opportunities in the new green economy to increase household income and build community resilience. Through her initiative, Blacks in Green is advancing human rights through affordable utility scale solar and community geothermal energy; green infrastructure balance through gardens, greenways, and reforestation; homeownership through next generation affordable housing; and community wealth-building through heritage tourism. With a $10 million grant from the Biden Administration, she’s championing environmental justice for Black communities across the Midwest. • Since the explosion of the tech industry in Silicon Valley, the Mission District has been ground zero for gentrification in San Francisco. In the process, the cultural fabric of this vibrant Latinx community — as well as its status as a safe, welcoming, and familiar landing pad for newly arrived immigrants — has been threatened. PODER SF’s Casa Adelante is a green affordable housing building, community center, office space, playground, and park on a once-abandoned parking lot in the heart of the Mission District. This project – which was the result of a community-driven process facilitated by PODER and a years long campaign – now serves as a climate-friendly and affordable sanctuary for Latinx families and residents. • #ICYMI: Last week, California launched a new statewide incentive program offering up to $2,000 toward the purchase of a new electric bike for low-income residents to ensure they are not left behind as the state advances toward a zero-emissions future. That's why The Solutions Project is also teaming up with @Velotric, a leading electric bike brand, to give one lucky TSP supporter a chance to win a Velotric Discover 2 E-Bike, valued at $1,899! Plus, Velotric is showing its appreciation for all TSP supporters with a $60 discount code to all giveaway entrants! • #ICYMI: As extreme heat continues to soar, communities in Miami-Dade are showing the rest of the world how to face climate change head-on. In 2023, community research in Miami-Dade revealed a startling truth: some areas hit a dangerous 108°F heat index over 100 times—while official National Weather Service records indicated only 14. Thanks to the advocacy and organizing work being done by climate justice groups like Catalyst Miami, WeCount, and Miami Climate Alliance, the city has taken life-saving action by appointing the world’s first Chief Heat Officer and rolling out an Extreme Heat Action Plan. Key life-saving measures from the plan have included the installment of 1,700+ AC units, the planting of 16,000 trees, and the creation of cooling centers to protect Miami's most vulnerable communities. WeCount's Qué Calor! campaign has also been pushing for statewide protections for Florida's over 2 million outdoor workers. Miami is definitely leading the way for climate action and it's time for more cities to follow. Their efforts have not only inspired similar campaigns across the country, but are proving that community-driven climate solutions, equity and resilience are key to tackling extreme heat! #ClimateJustice #ClimateSolutions #ExtremeHeat #EnvironmentalJustice

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to climate change, but the work of our 350+ grassroots partners proves that local, community-driven solutions are not only possible but powerful. From scaling innovative projects to creating real, lasting change, these frontline leaders are our best hope for the future. Thanks to YOU, over the past two months we've raised nearly $500,000 for grassroots climate solutions that are making a real difference! However, the world is looking a lot different than it did when we first asked for your support. In 2025, we will face incredible headwinds against climate action. We will need to be coordinated, collaborative, and committed to solidarity. We still need your help to fuel climate justice work, so that we can move millions of dollars to the frontlines – where community-led change is our strongest tool to empower grassroots leaders, protect vulnerable communities, and build lasting solutions that work. Join us in doubling your impact before the end of the year — every donation is matched dollar for dollar. Plus, you could win a Velotric E-bike! Let’s show up together and amplify the voices that matter most. The climate crisis won’t wait, and neither can we. • In the face of crumbling infrastructure and worsening storm surges, the residents of Florence, South Carolina, have gone without safe drinking water for years. With the town being 47% Black and grappling with environmental justice issues, Rev. Leo Woodberry, pastor of the Kingdom Living Temple in Florence decided he was unwilling to wait any longer on government assistance and launched a crusade to make clean water in his community an actual reality. After combining funds that were saved and money that was raised, he acquired and installed four solar hydropanels at his church — an innovative technology that uses sunlight and air to produce clean water, filtering, storing, and even running water to homes and businesses. An integral part of our grantee partner New Alpha Community Development Corporation (@newalphacdc), Rev. Woodberry’s overarching mission is to expand this life-changing technology and provide clean, accessible water to even more community members in Florence and beyond. Woodberry is taking action! https://lnkd.in/gTpRXJEh #TheSolutionsProject #DecadeOfSolutions #LetsCreateTheFuture
