About us
The Solutions Project funds and amplifies grassroots climate justice solutions across the US and Puerto Rico, especially those created by Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, women, and other people of color-led organizations. We operate as a national intermediary dedicated to improving the material conditions of the people directly impacted by the climate crisis, who we believe play a central role in finding and scaling solutions. We make grants to over 140 organizations closest to the problems created by pollution and climate change, amplifying the ideas and energy of those on the frontlines. We use culture, policy, and media as a strategy to bring focus and attention to what is working and what is not. The current moment appeals to philanthropy to be more attuned and holistic in its approach. To recognize interconnectedness, and to be in deeper service of communities. This is the type of philanthropy we embody. We envision a world where everyone has affordable housing, meaningful work, and a healthy place to live. A world created for the people, by the people. 100% for 100%. We make grants to the dozens of organizations closest to the problems of and solutions to pollution and climate change. We also help our partners tell their stories in the media so people everywhere can see what's working in the most unlikely of places. Finally, we get the best climate solutions in front of decision makers in government, business, and philanthropy so they put their money behind what works. Let's create the future we want!

This week, the Trump Administration took office and immediately began rolling back critical climate and social policies. Without federal leadership on climate, local and state governments must fill the gap. Philanthropy will have an essential role to play in stepping up to resource frontline climate justice organizations at the scale and speed needed. The Solutions Project will remain steadfast in its commitment to support frontline communities, resourcing and amplifying their bold, practical climate solutions. As the federal government steps back, the rest of us must step forward with greater urgency and commitment than ever before. Read our entire statement: https://lnkd.in/epRkBZs6

#ICYMI: As wildfires continue to devastate in Southern California, it's clear that climate change remains the root cause, not baseless claims. In a recent MSN article, Julie May, Senior Scientist at our grantee partner Communities for a Better Environment, emphasizes the urgent need for pollution reduction and a transition away from fossil fuels to prevent future catastrophes. As the climate crisis continues to be a critical issue, it's up to all of us to advocate community-driven climate justice solutions that help build a more equitable and sustainable future for everyone. #TheSolutionsProject #ClimateJustice #LetsCreateTheFuture

Today, as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we’re reminded that his fight for justice was not only about racial equality, but also about ensuring everyone has access to a clean, healthy environment. His vision for a world where people, not things, come first is just as important today, especially as we see how environmental issues impact marginalized communities. We all have a part to play in this fight. Whether it’s supporting frontline communities doing the work, or simply making more conscious choices – we can all make a difference. Let’s continue to carry Dr. King’s legacy forward and ensure a bright future for all 🌱 #MLKDay #HonoringMLK #TheSolutionsProject

On January 7, 2025, Los Angeles County was devastated by wildfires, leaving nearly 200,000 residents displaced and causing billions in damage. As the climate crisis intensifies, these catastrophic fires are another reminder that the climate crisis is no longer a distant threat — it is here and now. In response to the wildfires, The Solutions Project is deploying an initial pool of $50,000 in unrestricted emergency response funds for our Los Angeles-based grassroots grantees to help those directly impacted by the wildfires. However, recovery isn’t just about immediate help — it’s about long-term resilience, especially for vulnerable communities. Communities of color, particularly in places like Altadena, are facing the brunt of disasters like this. Now more than ever, we need to rebuild sustainably, ensure equity, and support climate resilience on all fronts. We are calling on the wider philanthropy community to join us. Philanthropy has a responsibility to do more than respond to disasters — it must invest in long-term solutions that prevent displacement, support frontline leaders, and build stronger, healthier, sustainable and resilient communities. #LosAngelesFires #TheSolutionsProject #LetsCreateTheFuture

In times of crisis, our collective strength lights the way forward. 🌿🔥 As wildfires continue to devastate communities in Los Angeles, we are reminded that it’s not just about rebuilding—it’s about preparing, and about how we care for the earth, our homes, and one another. These fires highlight the importance of mindful care: tending to our communities and the land in ways that restore balance and build resilience for the future. A few years ago, Edward (Redbird) Willie, a native ecologist and educator, joined us for a World WEAver event on Community-Driven Fire Resilience Strategies and Indigenous Fire Ecology. Redbird shared profound insights and practical resources drawn from traditional practices and his work here in Northern California, where wildfires have deeply shaped the landscape and its people. As we navigate this ever-changing climate, we wanted to share his wisdom again, knowing how timely and relevant it remains. Swipe through for highlights from our conversation with Redbird, and watch the full video at the link below. 🌱 https://lnkd.in/gTGjsACB #LosAngelesFires #FireResilience #IndigenousWisdom #CommunityStrength #ClimateSolutions #TraditionalEcologicalKnowledge

In our January Book of The Month, "Climate Change from the Streets", author Michael Méndez eloquently argues that the fight for environmental protection and public health are inseparable, and that genuine change can only be achieved by honoring local knowledge, culture, and history. A vital read for anyone seeking to explore the intersections of justice, environmentalism, and the untold stories that shape our world, this powerful book not only chronicles the pivotal milestones of the climate justice movement but also enriches our understanding of climate change by embedding it within the often-overlooked cultural, historical, and political contexts that influence its course. Ready to be inspired by the power of community and collaboration? Add "Climate Change from the Streets" to your 2025 reading list and join us in championing local voices for global impact! #ClimateJustice #EnvironmentalJustice #LatinxVoices #BookRecommendation #TheSolutionsProject

The climate crisis is happening now. Our communities need relief now. There’s no place for climate denial. A crushing start to the year for so many that I know and love in my LA community in general, and the community of Altadena, a place where I lived for many years, that is now, nearly unrecognizable. These climate-driven fires are displacing so many; and may God cover the loved ones of those whose lives have been lost in these fires. We must no longer turn a blind eye to this crisis. Let’s show up for each other, hold decision-makers accountable, and demand a just transition to a sustainable future now. Our collective power, empathy, and action is needed more than ever. Every action—big or small—makes a difference. Whether you’re donating, volunteering, or sharing resources, you’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient Los Angeles. Please share and check out these resources to support communities impacted by the wildfires. Together, is the only way forward. Thank you to the organizations that have contributed to these resources: The Collidescope Foundation LA Climate Week The Solutions Project LA Forward Kristy Drutman BLACK PEARL Samata Pattinson Stay tuned for more resources to come. #ClimateJustice #MutualAid #LAFires #CommunityCare #SolidarityNotCharity #LosAngeles #RebuildTogether #CommunitySupport #ClimateAction
