Chemical engineers are the most versatile of all engineers working in industries from medicine to microelectronics.
About us
Chemical engineers seek to improve the human condition by providing food, fuel, medication and materials that allow people to live longer, fuller lives. Chemical engineers fill diverse positions that contribute to the production of fossil and biofuels, as well as the manufacturing and production of insulin and various foods - even candy bars! They perform these jobs while protecting the health and welfare of the global population. Chemical engineering majors in the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Toledo are challenged to think creatively. They learn strong technical, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Our undergraduate curriculum combines math, chemistry, physics and biology with engineering to solve environmental problems, create new sources of fuel, develop solutions to water and food challenges and advance health care initiatives.

The end of an era indeed. We thought we would share the news that Palmer Hall is currently in the process of being torn down. For those of us on-campus right now, it's surreal to watch. But, new and exciting things are on the horizon!
Good morning, The University of Toledo Rocket Engineering alumni and friends! We’re witnessing the end of an era as our beloved Palmer Hall, the former R&D building for O-I, is being demolished to make way for new and exciting developments on the engineering campus. This building has been a cornerstone of our college for many years, and we know it holds countless memories for many of you. As we share daily photos of the demolition, we invite you to share your stories and memories of the times you spent here. Did you have a favorite class, an unforgettable professor, or a life-changing moment within these walls? We want to hear about it! Please comment below with your memories and stories. Let’s celebrate the legacy of Palmer Hall together, and start planning for what the Engineering Quad could be. #TheUniversityofToledo #Demolition #Memories #AlumniStories #CampusChanges

Drs. Maria Coleman, Yakov Lapitsky, and Thehazhnan (Thihal) Ponnaiyan, along with a few current student volunteers, participated in the 2024 Junior Achievement Inspire event last week at the Glass City Center. This event offered young people (8th-12th grades) the opportunity to discover career pathways through hands-on experiments. #futurechemcialengineers #Rocketengineers

UToledo AIChE participated in the AIChE Student Regional Conference at The Ohio State University last weekend and again (no surprise) came home winners! Morgan Schuld took 1st place in Student Research Presentations. She earns a spot in the national competition in San Diego. The ChemE Car Team took 2nd place in performance. The 2nd place may seem disappointing to the students' ongoing dynasty, however, the performance was truly exceptional. Each car gets two runs, and the car was within 0.516 m after Run 1 and then 0.098 m from the 18.7 m target after Run 2. Being within 10 cm is as close or closer than some of our previous victories. They also qualify to compete in San Diego. Noah Dull participated in the research poster presentation of the event. Dr. Matthew Liberatore Liberatore also gave the KEEN sponsored "Building a great student chapter" workshop and helped judge the Jeopardy games. The AIChE region conferences run four main competitions (ChemE Car, Jeopardy, Research Presentations, and Research Posters). Congratulations to all! #rocketengineers #chemicalengineering

Congratulations Morgan Schuld!
I am very excited to share that I placed first in the Student Technical Presentation Competition at the 2024 AIChE - American Institute of Chemical Engineers North Central Student Regional Conference at The Ohio State University this weekend. Special thank you to Dr. Matthew Liberatore for his mentorship and guidance over the past two and a half years. The opportunity to grow outside of my comfort zone in terms of research, problem solving, and public speaking is so valuable, and I am very grateful for the support to do so. It has been an honor to be a part of the AEM project in the The University of Toledo Chemical Engineering Department Rheology Lab, and I look forward to continuing with my Honors Thesis research and presenting at the AIChE National Conference in San Diego this fall!
