About us

The Washington Informer Newspaper Co., Inc. was incorporated on October 16, 1964 by Dr. Calvin W. Rolark. The weekly newspaper publishes positive news about the African American community in the metropolitan Washington area. The Washington Informer strives to educate, inform and empower its 50,000 readers of the award-winning print edition, as well as the 30,000-plus unique visitors of its online edition (www.washingtoninformer.com); the 7.500 weekly subscribers of the weekly email newsletter and our growing numbers of social media followers on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Washington Informer is the official sponsor of the local Scripps National Spelling Bee in the District of Columbia and Prince George's County. The Washington Informer is also the sponsor of the African American Heritage Tour held in February in honor of Black History Month. Today, Denise Rolark Barnes, daughter of Washington Informer founder Dr. Rolark, serves as the president and CEO.
