#Pupdate on Facility Dog Peace! ☮️ "Peace has been a paw-some support at The Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse since 2020. He helps families feel at ease when they walk through the doors, comforts children during forensic interviews and therapy sessions, and brings a smile to everyone he meets. Just this year, Peace has met with 104 clients at the Child Advocacy Center. Recently, a family who had frequently visited the center for interviews and therapy with our trauma therapist returned about a week ago. Peace immediately recognized them, and his enthusiasm was evident. He waited patiently to be invited into the room with them where he played, cuddled them during part of a movie, and stayed by their side throughout their visit. The family was thrilled to reconnect with him. Given the nature of our center, being here isn't ideal for anyone, but Peace helps families relax and feel comforted, making their experience a bit easier. He has also been a support for parenting clients and their children who have been requesting Peace's presence. His handler will bring him to play with the kids in the playroom or therapy room, and he sometimes joins the parents in their group classes." https://ow.ly/X3mH50TxK2l #ECADGrads #NationalServiceDogMonth

Days like today are special at the CPCA when we get to celebrate the men and women who have spent many months dedicating their time to become the best parent they possibly can be through our Supportive Parenting Program. Manuel Moore of Jasmine's Place and our graduation speaker today stated it best, "This moment is a testament to your hard work, perseverance, and unwavering love for your children. Each of you has faced and overcome significant challenges. You have made sacrifices, taken on difficult tasks, and, most importantly, you have grown. Your presence here today is proof of your determination to rebuild and strengthen the bond with your children."

CPCA has been busy since our Champions Against Child Abuse 50th Anniversary. Last week, Shannon, our Director of Programs, and Jess, our CAC Coordinator, traveled to Washington D.C. for the National Children's Alliance 2024 Leadership Conference where they presented on how to create military partnerships. They also learned from and connected with other experts and professionals in the CAC field, explored D.C., and participated in Hill Day, a day to reach out to lawmakers to advocate the importance of CACs.

We had a memorable evening last Thursday recognizing three truly deserving honorees, NYS Senator Robert G. Rolison of the 39th District, Jacqueline Montfort of Montfort Brothers, Inc (Fishkill), and CJ Tomaskovic of Merrill Lynch, as well as celebrating 50 years of preventing child abuse and protecting children. Our annual Champions Against Child Abuse Awards Dinner was a milestone achievement for the CPCA, not only in commemoration of our five decade history, but because nearly 500 of you showed up and helped us raise over $220,000 for local children and families. These numbers are record breaking for our organization. It is a reminder of the community we have by our side and the incredible impact we can make together to end child abuse. 📢 ANNOUNCEMENT! 📢 As the end of #NationalHumanTraffickingPreventionMonth nears, we are proud to share some incredible news. This month, the CPCA became a recipient of the Domestic Trafficking Victims Fund (DVTF) through National Children's Alliance (NCA). The $75K grant award will help expand the Personal Safety Program's reach to incorporate more middle school grades, and strengthen our services in the Child Advocacy Center and relationships with our community partners in an effort to combat child sex trafficking and child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). We are grateful for the opportunity we have been given to grow our capacity and build upon our community partnerships to better serve the children and families who need us.
