This informative session will shed light on what cancer financial toxicity is, understanding how and what cancer patients have to plan for before, during, and after treatment, and insights into the resources and tools that exist to support cancer patients through their journey. • World Cancer Day 2025: United by Unique As we approach World Cancer Day on February 4, 2025, we are reminded of this year's powerful theme: United by Unique. This credo emphasizes that while each person's experience with cancer is unique, we are all united in our shared ambition to reduce the cancer burden, achieve successful treatments, and improve the lives of those affected by cancer. Every individual's journey with cancer is distinct, and it will take all of us, united, to create a world where we see the person before the patient. A world where the needs of people and communities are at the heart of our health systems. People-centered care embraces everyone for who they are, aiming to deepen the connection between healthcare providers, patients, and entire communities. World Cancer Day calls on everyone – patients, loved ones, caregivers, friends, neighbors, practitioners, researchers, advocates, and allies – to play a vital role in this campaign. Over the next three years, the campaign will explore various dimensions of people-centered cancer care and innovative ways to make a difference, moving from raising awareness to taking action. At the Cancer Survivorship Provider Network (CSPN), we are proud to bring together oncology professionals dedicated to creating personalized supportive care through educational sessions. Our working groups focus on mapping supportive care from the day of diagnosis, exploring payment models, and collaborating with cancer centers to mentor and develop high-quality supportive care programs. One of our core values at CSPN is person-centered care, and we are incredibly grateful for our members who come together every day to achieve this goal. Together, we are united in our mission to support cancer survivors and improve their quality of life. Join us this World Cancer Day as we celebrate our unique stories and unite in our shared goals. Let's continue to work together to create a world where every person touched by cancer receives the care and support they deserve. #WorldCancerDay #UnitedByUnique #CSPN #CancerSurvivorship

  • Funding Supportive Care: Challenges and Opportunities We have discussed in many of our CSPN meetings, funding for supportive care comes from two main sources: research and philanthropic funding. Our cancer centers often have development teams busy raising funds. However, those building supportive care programs (and leading Standard 4.8 program building) often lack education on how to fully leverage these fundraising efforts. Additionally, funding in academic centers can often be funneled to research instead of programs that benefit our survivors right now. To address this, Terry Pearl from 360 Philanthropic Partners has graciously agreed to present on Wednesday, January 22nd at noon PT/3 pm ET for CSPN Coffee Talk - Professional Resource Room - Developing Your Case for Support for Philanthropy. RSVP here to join the discussion and learn how to better fund your supportive care programs if you are a CSPN member: https://lnkd.in/gxZDxvmD Join the CSPN for free at www.thecspn.org #Philanthropy #CancerCare #CSPN #Fundraising #Oncology

  • CSPN Coffee Talk - The Resource Room Featuring Dragon Boat Paddlers with IBCPC Representative, Ann Forbes Arndt, and Elizabeth Schy 🗓 Monday, Jan 13 🕒 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM EST Join us for an inspiring session of CSPN Coffee Talk - The Resource Room, where we'll be featuring Dragon Boat Paddlers with a representative from the International Breast Cancer Paddlers' Commission (IBCPC) and Elizabeth Schy. This event promises to be an engaging and informative discussion about the unique benefits of dragon boat paddling for breast cancer survivors. Benefits of Dragon Boat Paddling for Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon boat paddling is more than just a sport; it's a powerful form of therapy and community support for breast cancer survivors. According to a study by Koehler et al. (2020), dragon boat racing significantly enhances the quality of life for breast cancer survivors. The study surveyed 1,069 international breast cancer dragon boat racers and found that participants experienced improved physical function, increased activity levels, and greater social participation. Dragon Boat Paddling and Shoulder Function Research has shown that dragon boat paddling can have significant effects on shoulder function, particularly in terms of strength and mobility. The biomechanics of dragon boat paddling highlight the importance of shoulder extension and flexion during the paddling stroke. The repetitive motion involved in dragon boat paddling can help improve shoulder strength and endurance, which is beneficial for overall shoulder health. The physical demands of dragon boat paddling require coordinated shoulder movements, which can enhance shoulder stability and reduce the risk of injuries. This makes dragon boat paddling a valuable activity for maintaining and improving shoulder function. Charge for Lymphedema and Physical Therapists We encourage lymphedema specialists and physical therapists to join this session to learn more about the benefits of dragon boat paddling as a therapeutic exercise for breast cancer survivors. This is an excellent opportunity to understand how this community-based activity can be integrated into rehabilitation programs to support patients' physical and emotional recovery. Don't miss this chance to connect with experts and fellow survivors, and to explore the transformative power of dragon boat paddling!
