Miyagi Labs uses AI to transform YouTube content into complete, interactive courses. Imagine a 3Blue1Brown video turned into an online course with quizzes and study material. Miyagi Labs helps people learn better with active practice and personalized feedback. Learning is flawed: YouTube has top-notch content on everything for free, but 1-1 tutoring (which most people can’t afford) is still 2 standard deviations more effective than other methods. Miyagi Labs' platform (https://miyagilabs.ai) automatically generates questions, quizzes, and personalized feedback, turning passive watching into an active, engaging experience. Learners receive instant responses to their answers and can access an AI voice tutor for additional guidance. It allows creators and educators to focus on what they do best while it handles active learning and engagement. Founders Guang Cui and Tyrone Davis III met in college at MIT, where they studied Computer Science. Both are extremely passionate about learning and teaching. Tyrone became a chess master in four years just by watching YouTube videos. He's learned five languages and has taught computer science around the world. Guang has learned and taught algorithms (as a TA), math, physics, music, and ninja warrior to thousands of students. Congrats to the team on the launch! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gzFd4thN

Dreams can take flight (literally) w/ access to somthing as simple as a chess set. The incredible story of how 3 children who have been displaced by conflict in the DRC, took a flight to compete in the National Chess Championship. Not as refugees but as chess competitors… After 3 days of competition, and the children gave the best of themselves. None of these children had ever travelled, this experience will mark their lives and their journeys forever! We are happy to have taken this step, we have reassured ourselves to create good links to see how far the chess game will go in the DRC. We thank you for everything you have done for us during these unforgettable moments! To help support contact Bashige A. Tunde Onakoya

I build bridges and platforms for children in underserved communities to access opportunities.

Indeed dreams do take flight, a few weeks ago Benjamin was sleeping on the streets. I remember when we had a call a few days before the chess tournament on the 21st of December 2024 and he was not well but his voice full of hope as always. He came through for the tournament and won 2 games against the 9 year old Woman Candidate Master of Uganda who got the title in South Africa. I gave him another call on the 24th of December and he had no plans for the festive holidays except attend a gathering in Kisenyi where he’d later get food. A friend of mine had picked interest in him at the tournament in katwe and invited him to join their family for the Christmas celebration. On the evening of 24th December 2024 I got a call from a friend of mine and they had found a house for Benjamin. Just imagine spending the day on the streets of Kampala and all you’re being served with is uncertainty about what’s to come next and you receive a call from your coach telling you that tonight you don’t have to worry about the harsh weather conditions in the city. That you had a bed, bedsheets and a roof over your head. That it might rain as hard as it can and you won’t feel or experience the coldness of the running water as you sleep. That you won’t have to feel the constant body pains from sleeping on plain hard ground anymore. I vividly remember the excitement and a laughter of “is this really true, is it happening?” and that will forever stay with me. The feeling of a life transforming! that’s a feeling that a few have the opportunity to experience. How I wish it could be framed and hang on a wall. I guess feelings weren’t meant to be tangible but to be an amalgamation of emotions that confirm a certain feeling in time. Mine are tangible because every time I look at, talk to Benjamin, I am reminded of that moment. I find joy in the experience but my heart aches and questions, “How do we make this a reality for millions of children on the streets and in underserved communities?” We have created a go fund me https://lnkd.in/dhhQWFCN? for heroes like yourself to carry this beautiful burden with us.

Founder at Chess In Slums Africa

I met this 4 year old chess genius in the slums of Katwe Uganda. In all my years of playing and teaching chess, I have never seen a child this young play with such level of conviction and confidence. His mind is rare one and I believe he has the potential to become the world chess champion someday or even a prodigy who changes the course of history. His name is Elijah and with barely any formal training or education, has shown extraordinary aptitude for chess. But the journey ahead is an uphill climb. Elijah and his siblings live in extreme poverty and have been forced to drop out of school due to financial hardship, so we have created a Go fund me pageto support his education. Link: https://lnkd.in/eQwDB4hY If you’d like to support the chess project and help more children like Elijah discover their talents, I’ve also started a WhatsApp group (Link: https://lnkd.in/eJezEQjW )where we pledge a small monthly contribution—just $10—to provide for their feeding, education, and healthcare. This year, I’ve committed to traveling across Africa, seeking out unrealized potential and making sure these extraordinary young people find the platform they deserve. Every child is an untold story, let’s write them a beautiful one before their environment can limit their possibilities. Thank you Twikirize Ronald for the incredible work you do to give these kids a fighting chance. It is possible to do great things from a small place.

I build bridges and platforms for children in underserved communities to access opportunities.

I’ve done a lot of things but the most important thing I’ll ever do is building bridges with and for children in underserved communities to get access to opportunities, quality education, healthcare and exposure and enable them live the best version of themselves. We recently held an annual Christmas party for the children in katwe, Kikoni and Katanga communities. I was glad that children that participated in the pawns to kings project we held in March of 2023 at kisenyi bus terminal a place famously known for being home to street kids and drugs. I was glad that some of the children had transformed in the different aspects of their lives. One of them @ChessC792 has grown into a great person who now seeks to advocate for the rights of street children and show the world that they’re more than the current situation they experience and that the world just needs to make time, see, hear and support. Please support him. My highlight was that the community embraced the game and the event. From the children to the women and men of the community. Three men and two women shouted at the top of their voices and I quote “Even the children that sniff jet fuel and other drugs at kisenyi bus terminal play that game!” My heart was filled with immense gratitude, joy and deep sadness. I was happy that the seed we planted at kisenyi bus terminal was still alive. The children who the world has marked for failure and perceives as addicts and finds it hard to see beyond their circumstances and see them for who they can be have challenged the narrative and are committed to seeing the seed of @thegiftofchess still has life. The boys still play chess at the terminal and have scaled the game to Nakivubo trench, Nakasero market, Luwum street and I am happy that they created ways that enable them to move with their chessboards. This confirms that it possible and with enough care and attention, these pawns have the ability to become. They just need support. I was saddened by the fact that we had children as young as 13, 14, 15,16 years coming to learn chess with little children either on their backs or walking beside them. These were young girls who because of different reasons were handed the card of being opened up to the harsh realities of the world and became mothers at such a young age. I was saddened by the fact that we were surrounded by hectares of stolen dreams and destinies. In all the negative things that surrounded the event, I was still amazed by the great joy that was on the faces of the children once they learned that the smallest piece on the chessboard could become the most powerful piece on the chessboard and that this statement had the ability to translate into something tangible in their lives. I am always left in awe and wonder of how a pawn can become a queen and that one belongs where they choose and think they belong and our role is bring them to that awareness and build the infrastructure to enable them get there.

If you’re searching for a truly meaningful holiday gift this year, one that has the power to transform lives on a global scale, I have a suggestion. What was I doing in a plastics factory last week? Bennett Plastics is a family-owned and operated factory in Paterson New Jersey. Mainly a manufacturer of combs, they took on a unique and beautiful product for my friend Russell Makofsky. Please meet The Gift of Chess chess set. With its pieces made in the USA of recycled materials, this distinctive chess set features the king’s crown reimagined as a gift, embodying the spirit of this project: to empower millions in the US and around the globe through the transformative power of chess. The Gift of Chess brings the game to underrepresented communities in the United States and around the globe-- to schools, orphanages, community and refugee centers, prisons-- to anyone with a hunger to learn the game and build a network of positivity. Chess is a proven low-cost and high-impact opportunity catalyst for growth, change, and connection across multiple layers of society. The Gift of Chess has a lofty goal: donating 1.000,000 chess sets globally by 2030. All proceeds from purchasing this special gift set go towards this goal. Visit thegiftofchess.org to learn more and to purchase. Thank you to Jonathan Bachrach for the tour and for helping bring this project to life.
