The Leon Levine Foundation is excited to share that we have offered a three-year grant to InterAct of Wake. The funding will support its mission to protect and support survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence and sexual assault, as well as assist families in healing from trauma and moving forward in their lives with hope. 💜 We seek to empower nonprofits across the Carolinas that help motivated individuals and families attain self-sufficiency by preventing and addressing personal crises and supporting the well-being of vulnerable populations. Earlier this fall, we held a Return on Investment (ROI) Certification Program led by Patti Phillips at our office. Our own Director of Research and Evaluation Lindsay Messinger and Research and Evaluation Manager Kate McGrath, Ph.D. attended the training hosted by ROI Institute, Inc. They earned the prestigious designation of Certified ROI Professional (CRP) and built the skills needed to develop effective ROI evaluations in the fields of learning and performance, organizational development, human resources, technology, change and quality solutions. Congratulations to you both on a job well done! 🎉 #LeonLevineFoundation #ROI #ROIInstitute #ContinuingEducation #ROICertification

It has been 10 weeks since Hurricane Helene passed over the Carolinas with devastating effect, and our hearts remain with our neighbors in Western NC. In November, our board announced two additional grants designed to target concrete supports to low-income families experiencing the greatest negative impacts in the hardest-to-reach areas of the mountains: ApSeed Early Childhood Education is a nonprofit maker of early learning touchpads, preloaded with 14 quality early learning applications that do not require access to Wi-Fi. This grant will help extend learning opportunities for toddlers (ages 2-4) in the hardest hit counties of Mitchell, Yancey and Avery, whose access to early learning and childcare may remain disrupted. GiveDirectly is a global nonprofit that leverages technology to send cash payments directly to those in need. More specifically, GiveDirectly is sending $1,000 payments to low-income households in Western NC, identified using aerial imagery of geographies with the highest concentrations of storm damage, cross-referenced with existing enrollees of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). #LeonLevineFoundation #HurricaneHelene #DisasterRelief #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors #GiveBackCLT

Our Senior Program Officer of Human Services Deborah Majewski volunteered with Boone-based nonprofit Wine To Water earlier this month to aid in its Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Wine to Water focuses on providing clean water to those in need around the world. One of the organization's key services is building and distributing water filters to those who have access to a water source but lack easy purification methods. Deborah received a tutorial on the process, learning that the quality of the filtered water is quite high, better than most tap water, in fact! She is pictured here with Doc Hendley, the founder of Wine to Water. A huge congratulations to our partner Book Harvest, which celebrated the grand reopening of their newly expanded Family Space, Volunteer Center and National Headquarters in Durham this fall! This milestone strengthens the organization's commitment to ensuring all children have access to the books they need to thrive. 📚 Supporting education-based nonprofits is a big priority for us because offering academic resources to scholars from low-income families helps break the cycle of generational poverty. We love the work Book Harvest is doing to inspire the next generation of bookworms and bolster community literacy through its programming! Congratulations to the Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center on celebrating 57 years of service to our community this fall! We have been proud to support this nonprofit for the last 12 years. The center provides access to superior speech-language and hearing services that empower and transform lives. Our mission is to help underserved Carolinians achieve self-sufficiency. The center truly embodies that goal by allowing children to overcome barriers to their education and assisting older adults on Medicaid with receiving access to needed services. Listen in while our Program Officer in the Healthcare mission area Jacob Wiltshire explains the center's lasting impact.
