Our Senior Program Officer of Human Services Deborah Majewski volunteered with Boone-based nonprofit Wine To Water earlier this month to aid in its Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Wine to Water focuses on providing clean water to those in need around the world. One of the organization's key services is building and distributing water filters to those who have access to a water source but lack easy purification methods. Deborah received a tutorial on the process, learning that the quality of the filtered water is quite high, better than most tap water, in fact! She is pictured here with Doc Hendley, the founder of Wine to Water. A huge congratulations to our partner Book Harvest, which celebrated the grand reopening of their newly expanded Family Space, Volunteer Center and National Headquarters in Durham this fall! This milestone strengthens the organization's commitment to ensuring all children have access to the books they need to thrive. 📚 Supporting education-based nonprofits is a big priority for us because offering academic resources to scholars from low-income families helps break the cycle of generational poverty. We love the work Book Harvest is doing to inspire the next generation of bookworms and bolster community literacy through its programming! Congratulations to the Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center on celebrating 57 years of service to our community this fall! We have been proud to support this nonprofit for the last 12 years. The center provides access to superior speech-language and hearing services that empower and transform lives. Our mission is to help underserved Carolinians achieve self-sufficiency. The center truly embodies that goal by allowing children to overcome barriers to their education and assisting older adults on Medicaid with receiving access to needed services. Listen in while our Program Officer in the Healthcare mission area Jacob Wiltshire explains the center's lasting impact. Humans have a natural, deep curiosity about the farthest reaches of space. That's why it's been wonderful to support Blumenthal Arts in its efforts to raise funds to bring every 6th grade student in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to experience Space Explorers: The Infinite on Stage 1 at Blume Studios! Thanks to the power of virtual reality, students were given a chance to view Earth from outer space and discover what life is like for astronauts on the International Space Station. Our foundation is committed to connecting students in our community with high-quality educational opportunities that bring learning to life! 🚀🌌 Read more about the out-of-this-world initiative: https://bit.ly/3NUIwU5 #LeonLevineFoundation #InternationalSpaceStation #STEM #CharlotteMecklenburgSchools #SpaceExploration #VirtualReality

Sandra Levine, Chairman Emerita of The Leon Levine Foundation, recently spoke alongisde fellow community builders and philanthropists at "Inspiring Women Leaders: Women's Philanthropy Fall Kick-Off Event" hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. In a panel moderated by another accomplished community leader, Lisa Levinson, the women shared their personal stories and learned insights about philanthropy and the importance of strong Jewish life in a room full of passionate leaders from across the Charlotte Jewish community. The event aimed to embody the spirit of tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) to strengthen the future of our Jewish community both in greater Charlotte and beyond. #LeonLevineFoundation #EmpoweringWomen #FemaleLeadership #JewishWomenLeaders

Our partner Asheville Jewish Community Center has been a home for Jewish life in Western North Carolina since 1940. We are proud to see our friends there partnering with Early Starters International – an educational humanitarian organization that provides a healthy childhood to young children in emergency situations and vulnerable communities worldwide – to provide comfort and normalcy for the young children and their families in Asheville in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Our Data & Technology Specialist Israel Garcia recently attended Dreamforce in San Francisco, an annual conference hosted by Salesforce that is the largest AI event in the world. He described the event as an inspiring experience, particularly for those in the philanthropic sector. The event highlighted how the latest innovations in cloud computing, AI and automation are transforming how organizations approach social impact and giving. Garcia added the keynote sessions were especially relevant, with thought leaders emphasizing how these technologies can help nonprofits and foundations operate more efficiently, scale their efforts and better connect with the communities they serve. He had meaningful conversations with peers about sustainability in philanthropy and how technology can empower more responsible, impactful giving — which will undoubtedly shape our future strategies. Our partner The High Point Center for Child Wellness at Family Service of the Piedmont provides comprehensive psychiatric care tailored to meet the developmental needs of children. Their dedicated team includes case managers, therapists, a registered nurse, nurse practitioner and child psychiatrist. They offer assessments, recommendations and support for various behavioral health needs for children and their families. Thanks to the recent renovation of the lower level, they have doubled their capacity and added space for 7 new clinicians (3 already in place)! This means more kids and families can get the help they need 💙. #LeonLevineFoundation #CarolinasNonProfit #InvestingInPeople

It is an honor to watch our grantees' dreams turn into realities! In late September, Meals on Wheels Rowan celebrated the grand opening of their newly renovated offices in Salisbury that they moved into over the summer. 🎊 Volunteers will pick up meals here to deliver to those in need in the community. Our foundation contributed to the Forever Home Fund to help finance this project as a part of our Human Services pillar. The mission of Meals on Wheels Rowan is to deliver food and nutritious meals to Rowan County seniors who have difficulty leaving their homes or are challenged to prepare their meals. Volunteers and staff build relationships, provide referrals and work to mitigate social isolation.
