"As high functioning individuals, sometimes we overlook the fact that those people [who want to keep developing] actually do need feedback." - Dr. Melodie Chan, The Lost Vet podcast If your team members are expressing an interest in their development but you don't follow through, you're failing them as a leader. It's important to sit down with your team members and lay out their career aspirations and how you can help them reach their goals. In The Lost Vet Podcast, Dr. Melodie Chan and Rob Marr talk about personal development and career growth rather than just climbing a career ladder and how to support ambitious team members. Have you ever felt lonely? Ironically if your answer is yes, you’re not alone. If we don’t address loneliness, we can enter a vicious cycle where feelings of isolation and disconnection can lead to social withdrawal and even hostile antisocial behaviors. This, in turn, drives further isolation. ‘The effects of feeling isolated in your role as a vet can have a huge impact on mental health and it hasn't been taken seriously yet.’ - Liane Nelson, The Lost Vet book ➡️ So, what can we do to be more connected as veterinarians? Check out our blog with the link in the comments for 4 steps to being more connected as veterinarians! #VeterinaryLife #WorkLifebalance #MentalHealth #Veterinarians #Connection

Meet Dr, Rachel Fraser, who has seen an improvement in communication across her practice within a few days. What needs to change in your practice to enable everyone to succeed? This could be committing to regular sessions with your team where you only focus on their career, personal development, and what they want to achieve. You might also want to set personal goals that you can then help them to achieve, as well as creating opportunities and providing support for them. Become the leader you dreamed of being! #SuccessStory #VetLeadership #VetLife #Leadership

"If I want something done properly I have to do it myself. How do I get my team to be more accountable?" A tricky juxtaposition that we must confront is that as leaders we want our team to step up, but simultaneously we want to tell them what to do and this is the first thing that has to stop. We encourage all leaders to have fewer answers and give fewer directions. Do not set the standard; let your team set the standard. You tell them what and let the team tell you how. 💡 Have you defined everyone's roles clearly and made sure they have the training and mentoring they need to deliver?
