Where real entrepreneurs pitch to real investors—for real money.

About us

The Pitch is hosted by Josh Muccio, who brought the independent podcast to Gimlet in 2017. The show has been downloaded tens of millions of times since. Then in 2022, after the sale of Gimlet Media to Spotify, Josh purchased The Pitch back from Spotify, took the podcast independent again, and made it available on all platforms. "The Pitch will keep you hooked." – Brian Solomon, Forbes "It’s addictive listening. I’ve been burning through the episodes." – Andy Dehnart, Reality Blurred In the early days of building a startup, founders make critical decisions that will shape their companies for years to come. The Pitch takes you behind closed doors and into the the world of startups: how people sell their ideas, what makes investors tick, and how these initial conversations can bloom into business deals—or die on the vine.

Venture Capital isn’t just about writing checks—it’s about backing bold ideas and extraordinary founders. That’s something I’ve come to understand deeply as an investor in The Pitch Fund, led by General Partners Josh Muccio and Lisa Muccio. Over the past few years, they’ve built something remarkable: ✅ Over $4.8 million raised ✅ Nearly 30 startups funded ✅ Process that blends media, innovation, and hands-on founder support But what makes their approach stand out is how personal it is ... It’s not just about spreadsheets and market trends—it’s about people. As Lisa often says, “Startups are like babies. They need a village.” I’m truly grateful to Josh and Lisa for not only creating an incredible platform like The Pitch, but for opening the door to a new world of investing for so many—myself included. Their vision and commitment to supporting founders are unmatched, and their process sets a new standard for what venture capital can be. In our recent conversation, we dove into what makes The Pitch Fund unique and why their first fund has become a magnet for innovative founders and passionate investors alike. Here’s a glimpse of what we covered: ➡ What VCs really look for in founders ➡ How The Pitch media platform gives startups a competitive edge ➡ The future of investing in pre-seed and seed-stage startups If you’ve ever been curious about how venture capital works—or wondered how to get involved—this is the perfect place to start. Watch the video below to learn more about The Pitch Fund, the behind-the-scenes process, and why emerging fund managers like Josh and Lisa are shaking up the VC world 👇 https://lnkd.in/eshGSpSC #VentureCapital #ThePitch #StartupFunding #Innovation #HighNetWorthInvesting

    Democratizing venture

Sometimes, the most valuable lessons come from studying your competition… their apparent market strengths could actually be their Achilles heel. Take Dhaval Patel, the founder of Lotus (Techstars'23) — A former Apple Engineer turned entrepreneur who is building a smart ring for the millions of people in the United States with limited mobility. His device is simple, yet elegant. It’s a wearable ring that controls lights switches throughout the home using infrared beams without the need for internet connectivity or rewiring. During his pitch, Mark Phillips asked Dhaval two very important questions: Why did you choose a ring as the remote, rather than a watch or handheld device? And, what have you learned from other companies offering a device in the form of a ring, like Oura? Dhaval’s response is a masterclass in how to really listen and learn from the competition.  1. Oura is a vitamin, not a painkiller — Oura rings are used to track a person’s vitals and health markers, allowing them to make proactive changes in their lifestyle to prevent future sickness and disease. LESSON: “Vitamin” products see lower adoption, they’re less sticky, and they serve a much smaller market. A great product must immediately solve a pain point.  2. The price point is too high — Oura rings can range between $200 and $400. Unfortunately, the company sells DTC, which requires a huge marketing budget. There’s no way around it. Direct-to-consumer is really difficult and very expensive. LESSON: By selling B2B2C Lotus can scale their company to many consumers without pouring hundreds of millions $$$ into marketing their product. BTW… if you haven’t heard the Lotus ring just launched! You can finally order a Lotus ring V1 on their website. Their site and full episode are linked below. Just remember to bookmark the site, because you won’t be seeing any ads for Lotus ;)

WOW! They've come a long way since pitching on our show in 2018 https://lnkd.in/erCRuC2S Cody is one of the reasons we started The Pitch Fund, he's also one of the very first LPs to back us. Go Bounce go!

    Founder / CEO at Bounce

I'm thrilled to share that Bounce has raised a Series B, adding some fantastic new investors to the roster. In the last 2 years since our Series A, we've grown more than 20x, and expanded Bounce to now 100 countries and 13,000 locations. If you lined up all the bags we've stored, it would stretch from London to Beijing. Or stack them up and you would make it to space and back 28 times. We are building towards a customer expectation that you can find Bounce just about anywhere you go always having a place to drop your bags, freeing you to explore more. In my interview with the incredible Natasha Lomas at TechCrunch, I share more details on our multi-decade vision -- to build "cloud storage for the physical world" and how we're soon making this more of a reality. Building a company comes with many ups and downs and it would not be at all possible without the amazing team behind it. They say "it only counts if you're having fun" and this team knows how to enjoy the ride while making things happen. A special shoutout goes to their significant others who embrace the long hours and chaos. Lastly, to the new investors in Bounce, you know as well as I that this is only the start of the Bounce story and what we are going to achieve. Welcome Sapphire Sport (David Hartwig, Rico Mallozzi, & team), Thayer Ventures, Shilling VC, and others. And thanks to our existing investors for further investment and support: Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Creator Ventures and many many others who have been instrumental in our journey. PS: to those who like to ask "how can I help" (which I'm so grateful for), here are a few things we're looking to unlock right now: -Intros to hotel chains for our new Bounce for Hotels product -Intros to potential strategic partners -Senior growth or product leaders open to a new career adventure -Sales reps excited to help us add more stores to the network -Help getting the word out to anyone who should know about Bounce! Thank you, much love to all our supporters ❤️ (TechCrunch article in comments)

    Democratizing venture

Lisa and I didn’t start this show to get famous. We had something completely different in mind… Over the years, there have been so many people who ask us if we're trying to create a copy of Shark Tank for companies too small to present in front of Mr. Wonderful, himself. It’s not any of that. The reason we started The Pitch Show is because we wanted to bring light to how these early-stage deals actually work. The seed and pre-seed startup ecosystems contain some of the most exciting investment opportunities in the venture space right now. The problem is, only the VCs know how these deals actually work. There’s too much obscurity, not enough information out in the public. By creating this show, telling these founder stories, and giving them a platform to pitch in public, we actually end up changing that story. Visibility changes behavior. It makes investors more communicative and it makes founders more transparent. Anecdotally, I think that our show actually selects for the people who exhibit the qualities of a transparent leader — someone who is ok with being communicative and vulnerable. It takes a certain kind of fearlessness and confidence to appear on a show and publicly share your company’s most sensitive information. Only founders with great integrity can handle that kind of thing. But, as a result, you get a portfolio of better leaders. When shit goes down, they’re more likely to ask for help, listen to feedback and do what’s needed to keep the company alive. This is not something that we anticipated when we first started, but it has become one of the most important things that The Pitch Show contributes to the world today. Our mission is to build the most transparent portfolio of early-stage companies this industry has ever seen. Come join us and subscribe to the show using the link in the comments! 🔗 ✅
