Advances in personalized medicine have the potential to change the way patients are treated for cancer and other diseases. In order to realize the full potential of innovations like tailored treatment options and targeted drug development, we need to focus on technologies that streamline data analysis as well as collaborative partnerships across the healthcare, research, and technology sectors, says Thermo Fisher's Kathy Davy. It is also important to develop education that empowers clinical teams to implement precision medicine effectively, Davy adds. Read more about how, according to Davy, a focus in these areas can help ensure "that more patients benefit from the breakthroughs in oncology and beyond." https://lnkd.in/eziPtNwY

Understanding tissue structure and function is crucial to help researchers develop new treatments for solid tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. The recently launched Invitrogen EVOS S1000 Spatial Imaging System leverages advanced and patented spectral technology, helping to reduce the need for multiple rounds of imaging and preserve tissue integrity. Through this innovation, we're helping more researchers access high-quality data, enabling them to make important discoveries that could change the way we treat disease. On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we recognize innovators like 14-year-old Tina Jin, a passionate young engineer determined to increase access to clean water. Tina immediately wanted to help after learning that a third of the world’s population lacks access to potable water, and that unsafe drinking water kills more people globally each year than natural disasters and conflicts combined. Relying on her STEM acumen, Tina invented a low-cost water filtration system that uses readily available, natural materials to make dirty water safe to drink. Her efforts earned her first place in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, the nation’s premier STEM research competition for middle schoolers. Role models like Tina are an inspiration to us and we can’t wait to see how she, along with the next generation of scientific innovators, change the world. A life-threatening allergic reaction to a hot dog with ketchup and mustard left Lidia de Los Rios struggling to breathe when she was 10. This was the start of a series of dangerous and puzzling episodes of anaphylaxis that sent her to the emergency room and countless doctors for more than a decade. With no clear answers for what was causing her condition, Lidia's diet became so restricted that her weight dropped to 81 pounds, and she developed anxiety, depression and a fear of swallowing. Then she met a doctor who changed her life after he administered Thermo Fisher’s ImmunoCAP test, which identified Lidia’s allergy to the lipid transfer protein. This diagnosis helped her doctor develop a new treatment plan that over time enabled her to eat foods that once would have killed her, transforming both her physical and mental health. Lidia's story is a testament to the impact of precise diagnosis and patient-tailored treatment to change people’s lives.

Cell therapies use a patient’s own immune system to fight complex diseases like cancer, but time and cost impede access to these potentially life-saving treatments. These are precisely the challenges that Thermo Fisher is working to help our customers overcome. Our own Jean Luo joined miDiagnositic’s CEO to discuss the ways our organizations collaborate to help scientists advance research, scale manufacturing through automation and accelerate patient access to cell therapies through our clinical trial services. “By leveraging this collective expertise and experience, we collaborate with regulators, as well as companies and customers, to bring cell therapies to market faster,” says Luo.
