This device is particularly designed for treating articular cartilage lesions, offering a minimally invasive approach with a bendable nitinol tip that allows surgeons to reach various anatomical areas. The device supports a range of biomaterials, including VitroGel® RGD, and ensures cell viability during extrusion. The study demonstrated a comprehensive evaluation of the device's performance through biological tests and computational simulations to ensure that the extrusion process does not compromise cell viability and that the mechanical forces involved remain within safe limits. 🧫 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗚𝗲𝗹® 𝗥𝗚𝗗 was used as one of the cell-laden biomaterials to evaluate the performance of a handheld device designed for controlled extrusion in arthroscopic cartilage repair. The rheological properties of VitroGel® RGD were assessed, showing it had low viscosity compared to other biomaterials. Biological tests demonstrated that VitroGel® RGD maintained cell viability after extrusion, with cells exhibiting elongated shapes, suggesting that the device could extrude this biomaterial without compromising cell health.
