October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. While DCAC does not work directly on cases of intimate partner violence, research shows that child maltreatment often occurs in homes where IPV takes place. Both are crimes of isolation and secrecy, where vulnerable victims can be manipulated or groomed into fearing that if they say something, things will get worse.
When it comes to domestic abuse, we know:
💛 The Statistics show that the co-occurrence between DV and child maltreatment is as high as 70%.
💛The number one predictor of child abuse is woman abuse.
💛DV often precedes child maltreatment - so intervention at the time DV is identified may prevent future child abuse.
DCAC is proud to stand with partners and survivors, united against violence in our community. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, know that you are not alone and there are many resources available to you. Contact the national domestic violence hotline at 800-799-7233 for 24/7 support in both English and Spanish.
