Nature-Based Wellness for BIPOC Communities

About us

Through The Trees Collective (T3C) is a Black woman-owned, small business servicing BIPOC communities in the Pacific Northwest. T3C exists at the intersection of multiple identities, which allows leadership to tap into the ancestral knowledge of the African Diaspora and beyond, and to serve as a facilitator for the next generation of diverse cultural changemakers. All T3C programming is intended for the purpose of creating spaces where BIPOC individuals can come together to connect with one another, while reclaiming their cultural connection to the outdoors and natural ways of healing. Our approach is multi-generational, holistic, and interdisciplinary, as we aim to bridge the connection between generations, classes, and ideologies - recognizing that we all come from a collective root system that allows us to grow together in community and build a more sustainable future for all.

📢 FREE Film Screening on 2/1! Join Through The Trees Collective and The Blueprint Foundation as we join forces to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth on Saturday, 2/1 with a film screening of the powerful documentary, "Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts" followed by a Q&A with the film’s director and producer, Dru Holley . 📽 This documentary tells the powerful story of the African American soldiers who served in the U.S. Army during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 🎖 Often overlooked in history, these brave men fought not only on the frontlines of battle but also against racial injustice within the military and society. ✊🏾🖤 The film sheds light on the courage and resilience of the Buffalo Soldiers as they navigated the complex challenges of racism, war, and their contributions to the American frontier. Through historical insights and personal stories, the film honors their legacy and sheds new light on an important chapter in American history. ***This event is FREE and open to people of ALL AGES & BACKGROUNDS*** Register at: https://lnkd.in/gWvnDn6a See other T3C Black History 2025 Offerings for the Month of February: https://lnkd.in/g7iSACKx

Spring was busy for Through The Trees Collective! Check-out some of the events we hosted: ✨️Nature Immersion + Art Therapy Workshop with The Blueprint Foundation and Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership May ✨️ Blueprint students and mentors embarked on a memorable adventure to Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge with us. We revisited willow trees that older students and mentors had planted years ago, a beautiful reminder of growth and continuity. With wildlife refuge bingo cards, we engaged all our senses: tasting fir needles, feeling the long grass and the cold stream, breathing in the fresh air, and seeing camas growing. Using binoculars, we spotted a variety of birds including swallows, swifts, crows, ducks, and even a majestic Bald Eagle soaring close overhead. Next, we guided participants through art therapy, drawing, and watercoloring the stunning scenery. We paused to listen and fully immerse ourselves in the serenity around us. Following the peaceful session of art therapy, we closed the day out by finding a soft spot in the grass to all sit together and be guided in meditation. I cherish the connections and moments we shared in this amazing natural space 💚🌼.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of being celebrated as 1 of 16 nominees for the Portland Parks Foundation's "2024 Joey Pope Award for Parks Leadership" for the work I do with Through The Trees Collective. This annual award is named after Josephine “Joey” Pope, PPF’s founding chair and a devoted activist, philanthropist, and leader in making Portland’s parks system more accessible to all. The award celebrates emerging leaders, organizations, and initiatives advancing accessibility and innovation in Portland’s parks system. It was truly honor it was to be celebrated for the work I do with T3C in the Portland Metro Area. At times, this work can be challenging on both personal and communal levels - but it is moments like this that gives me the fuel to keep striving and creating more accessible and safe spaces in the outdoors for Black, Indigenous, and other melanted peoples 🤎✊🏾🖤. Shout out to alllll the other amazing nominees and the impactful work they do! #ThroughTheTreesCollective #T3C #PortlandParksFoundation #PPF #PortlandParks #JoeyPopeAwards #BlackOutdoors #PNW #PortlandEvents #BIPOC #NatureBelongsToUsAll #NaturalHealing #360Wellness

  • Join Through The Trees Collective as we celebrate #BlackBirdersWeek '24 held Saturday, May 25th - Saturday June 1st! 🌿🐦 #T3CBBW24 is an enriching and adventurous celebration of community, birds, and the outdoors - and is held in conjunction with the nationally recognized 5th Annual “Black Birders Week” created by Black AF In Stem. This week aims to create *FREE* safe and inclusive spaces for BIPOC folks of all ages/gender expressions to connect with the outdoors, particularly in environments that have historically been inaccessible to us. Our goal is to equip the community with enough insight, comfort, and autonomy to embark on future expeditions on their own. We are beyond privileged to partner with a variety of local, statewide, and national organizations for #T3CBBW24 - who are all coming together to help us create a memorable week of wellness and outdoor exploration!

  • ✊🏾🖤 Black Futures Month FTW! This past weekend, T3C had the honor of creating a space for melanted community members to come together to learn some Oregon Black history, while reconnecting with our Ancestral lineage in nature 🌿. Every event we host always leaves us feeling so rewarded and full of J O Y - and we are beyond grateful to help build a safe space for people of the global majority to come together and "disconnect to reconnect" with self and one another ✨️.
