Benin, a West African country, has countless industrial sites in its South region. Despite industrial heritage making up an identity, a reflection of the ingenuity of our ancestors, these industrial sites are unfortunately abandoned and ignored. For this reason, we have assigned ourselves the task of cataloguing the industrial sites of the colonial period in the South of Benin. To read more on the topic, check our TICCIH website via the following link: https://lnkd.in/dpigGnPS, become a member and access Bulletin nr. 106. The planning for TICCIH's World Congress in Kiruna in 2025 is now in full swing! From August 6-8, TICCIH's president and secretary – Miles Oglethorpe and Marion Steiner – visited Kiruna together with members of the Swedish planning committee for the congress – Dag Avango, Per-Olof Grönberg, Curt Persson, Jennie Sjöholm, and Roine Viklund at the History Unit at LTU. We held meetings with key stakeholders for the congress and developed both the congress program and its themes. The TICCIH 2025 Congress in Kiruna will focus on tensions and controversies surrounding the cultural heritage of industrial society in our time – tensions regarding the past and the present. It will address how we think about and use the history of the legacies of industrial society in the present, as well as risks and opportunities associated with cultural heritage in times of rapid transition. The congress, taking place from August 25-30, 2025, is expected to attract around 400 participants from around the world.
