Kate Burns is currently a senior studying marketing and enrolled in the International Business Certificate program. She spent four months in the spring of 2024 studying abroad in London. She also had the opportunity to travel to seven countries in that time frame (England, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Scotland). Kate says that the IBC set her up for success during her time abroad. It helped guide her in choosing a location that would best fit her and taught her more about what to expect while she was away. Kate hopes to work at a marketing firm with international clients after graduation and says that the IBC has introduced her to many global opportunities that have helped pave the way toward achieving her professional goals. #instituteforinternationalbusiness #tippitecollegeofbusiness #uiowa #connectlocalengageglobal

Earlier this semester, IIB Director Dimy Doresca, CGBP visited numerous high schools across East Africa. “What an incredible journey, I had the privilege of visiting four vibrant cities – Kigali, Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and Nairobi – connecting with students eager to pursue higher education at University of Iowa” Dimy expressed that each city offered unique insights into the educational aspirations of the students of the region, many of whom indicated interest in fields like business, computer science, entrepreneurship, and writing. Many students showed interest in the educational opportunities available at Iowa and see the US as a place where they can build their network and compete with peers globally. Dimy looks forward to virtual follow-up calls with one of the schools and, hopefully, to seeing some of them on our campus in the near future! #instituteforinternationalbusiness #tippitecollegeofbusiness #uiowa #connectlocalengageglobal

At the end of the summer, Dimy Doresca, CGBP visited several Southern African countries, witnessing the impact of University of Iowa Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni in their communities. These Alumni not only lead impactful businesses but also provide internship opportunities for Tippie College of Business students. Such visits enhance Alumni support, foster new projects, and build capacity for UI interns. Each year, University of Iowa students engage with Alumni through consulting projects and internships, promoting professional growth and amplifying the global impact of the Fellowship. #instituteforinternationalbusiness #tippitecollegeofbusiness #uiowa #connectlocalengageglobal

Institute for International Business at The University of Iowa reposted this
As Madanha Farm, we were honored to host the Mandela Washington Fellowship Reciprocal Exchange project, organized by our co-founder, Freedom Mukanga , and Jayne Meacham from the Institute for International Business at The University of Iowa. It was an inspiring experience to engage with such passionate individuals who are committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. The exchange provided valuable insights into sustainable agricultural practices, and we are excited about the lasting impact it will have on our community and beyond. Collaborations like these are crucial in driving forward-thinking solutions that empower farmers and strengthen local economies.
2022 Fellowship Alumnus Freedom Mukanga collaborated with staff from his Leadership in Business Institute at the University of Iowa on a Reciprocal Exchange to train women farmers in Cheza Village, Zimbabwe, on farming and entrepreneurial skills. Check out pictures from their collaboration! #MWFCelebrates10
