Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to speak at Torq’s SKO in Madrid 🇪🇸 sharing an analyst’s perspective on AI in the SOC and emerging CISO trends for 2025. A few key takeaways: 1️⃣ CISOs have heard the AI promise in the SOC before—this isn’t new. A decade ago, legacy SOAR vendors promised to automate the SOC, and… well, we know how that turned out. 2️⃣ Skepticism is high from CISOs burnt, but forward-leaning organizations are already experimenting with AI in their SOCs, but we still have work to do. 3️⃣ Many enterprises already have next-gen hyperautomation playbooks (for security and non-security use cases) and prefer to buy from vendors they trust in this space. Why? Hyperautomation and next-gen SOARs were the first steps toward SOC automation, and while early solutions fell short, hyperautomation vendors today understand the DNA of the SOC—making them well-positioned to drive AI-SOC adoption compared to brand new startups. (PS: I was impressed by what I saw in Torq’s AI SOC product, Socrates!). Torq is in a strong position since its automation playbooks are well-known to large SOCs—but as I told them, it’s their market to lose -- as we know competition is heating up, with new players emerging from stealth. Ultimately, for this sector to gain real traction, broadly vendors need to move beyond the hype and showcase real-world case studies to earn CISO trust. I'll be tracking this market closely in the back-half of 2025! PS: Torq knows how to put on a great SKO!
