  • Happy Monday! We are diving into the importance of Mental health and exercise today! So mental health is something many of us don't want to always discuss. Some of us would rather not admit we are going through a difficult time, especially during these winter months and holidays. But it is important to acknowledge the positive effects exercise has on the mind. Some of those effects are improved mood, reduced stress and anxiety, improved sleep, increased self-esteem, better concentration, increase in social interactions, and reduced risk of mental illness. When exercising our bodies release endorphins. These are known as the feel-good hormones! They help reduce pain and stress, and improve your sense of well-being. So its important to get up and move your body. We aren't saying you have to go to the gym to reap these benefits! Get outside and go for a walk, hike, swim, run, anything! Just move it and groove it! Or better yet come see us! And we will help you get to feeling the best you can feel!

  • Do you or a loved one deal with nerve pain in your day to day? Do you struggle getting through the day without this common pain impeding your everyday life? Well, if so we have some information for you in addition to a service we provide here at Total Body Works! Studies have shown that there is a natural compound called acetyl-L-carnitine that can stimulate healing of injured nerves and reduce that pesky nerve pain. This compound triggers production and release of neurotrophins that promote nerve repair and healing. It also activates a special type of receptor that dampens pain signals and in turn acts as a powerful antidepressant. Acetyl-L-carnitine also stimulates brain cell growth which in turn would aid people suffering from brain injuries. Taking this in addition to coming to see us for ARP wave will help you have a pain relief therapy system that promotes lasting changes to your nervous system patterns. Acetyl-L-carnitine and ARPwave can help you manage or even completely eliminate that daily nerve pain that you might be dealing with. Come see us and let us help you get back to a pain free existence!

  • Let’s talk about gut health! Many people struggle with gut health. Some are being diagnosed with allergies, lactose intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, and more. So let’s talk about Prebiotics and Probiotics and the importance of both! Prebiotics can be found in some foods! Such as; asparagus, artichoke, onions, tomatoes, garlic, oats, honey, bananas, wheat, peas, beans, chia seeds, cows milk, seaweed, chicory, and dandelion greens. These foods stimulate growth of beneficial microorganisms in the digestive system, produce short chain fatty acids which play important roles in gut and metabolic health, and overall keep the gut lining healthy! Probiotics provide a lot of amazing help to our gut health. They improve lactose tolerance, boost your immune system while decreasing inflammation, protect against food allergies and eczema, and helps with certain digestive disorders. Overall taking probiotics helps improve your digestion and absorption of foods and nutrients while able to act as gut beneficial bacteria that create a physical barrier against the unfriendly bacteria that enters your system! There are prebiotic and probiotic supplements. Some came with both in one supplement! Two for one special!! If you struggle with any gut health issues try looking into getting this pair on board with you!

  • Man what a snow storm to welcome in the winter season! While you and or your loved ones are out clearing sidewalks and driveways or simply playing in the snow be safe! To stay injury free make sure you are conscious of your body! Listen to it, but in turn also make sure you wear warm clothes, drink plenty of water, and take it slow! For those of you who may be out shoveling make sure you are watching for ice but most importantly protect your back! When lifting the heavy wet snow make sure you are lifting with your knees and do not twist with your body. This could cause some future problems not only with your back but your knees and hips too! Come see us to help strengthen those back and leg muscles so you can go into these wintery months with confidence in not causing an injury! We have everyone from personal trainers, a massage therapist, a chiropractor and a physical therapist to ensure your body is moving and grooving in tip top shape! In the meantime, stay warm everybody and stay safe!!

  • Howdy All! We made it to Friday! Almost the weekend! If you are like many of us out there you’ve been told that large amounts of sodium in your diet isn’t good for you. In general, the government says that human beings should be consuming less than 2.3 grams of sodium a day and that a low salt diet would reduce the risk of heart disease. This is not correct, the amount we should be taking is 4-6 grams! Low salt sends the body into sodium retention mode which releases sodium retention hormones. These hormones cause the kidneys to retain sodium while also raising blood pressure and causing osteoporosis. Low sodium also causes low energy, headaches, muscle cramps, fatigue, weakness, and insomnia! There have been studies that show that there was no correlation between salt intake and high blood pressure using over 10,000 people across 48 global populations. Another study found that in 2,632 people that had less than 2.5 grams of sodium a day led them to having higher blood pressure. And finally in 2011 there was another study on 28,800 heart diseased patients found that restricting sodium gave these individuals a 19% higher risk of cardiovascular death! If you need more salt in your life to feel and perform your best, come on in and grab our LMNT packets or premade drinks! LMNT is an electrolyte drink mix that can help you increase your salt intake! Or if you have any questions or comments, feel free to call us or comment here! We would love to hear from you!
