Loved speaking at the Atlantic Maritime Tech Conference at Newlab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard last week — a gathering of around 300 forward-thinkers exploring how technology is reshaping the maritime landscape. The maritime sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the need for more sustainable practices, greater operational efficiency, and stronger security frameworks. The global maritime technology market is projected to reach $345 billion by 2030, fueled by advancements in AI, IoT, and automation. Discussions on AI-powered logistics, autonomous systems, sustainable practices, efficiency, and cybersecurity highlighted just how much potential exists to revolutionize global shipping — with AI alone expected to improve operational efficiency by up to 60% in the coming years. Thanks to my co-hosts Sean Simons, Sammie Hasen, Pete Mathias, Drew W., Ryan Musto and the event sponsors Aprio, Gunderson Dettmer, and Silicon Valley Bank. A special shout out to my panel moderator Sean Simons (twice in one month!) for bringing together an inspiring group and to my fellow panelists Jonathan Chia, Stephen Lyman, and Geoff Douglass for an insightful exchange. Also great to see TMV portfolio company Nodal Networks on stage and hear Paul Albert-Lebrun talk about how technology is reshaping ports, logistics, and infrastructure to adapt to global trade shifts. On top of that, I had the opportunity to catch up with Kenji Togasaki from Iino Lines, one of TMV’s valued Limited Partners. His presence at the event highlights the strong partnerships we’re building within the maritime and logistics ecosystem. Looking forward to what’s next as innovation continues to accelerate in this space. #MaritimeTech #InnovationInShipping #SustainableLogistics #FutureOfShipping #VCInsights Kenji Togasaki

Partner at TMV investing in the Future of Care

As an early-stage healthcare investor, I spend a lot of time thinking about problems and solutions, but just as much thinking about how great ideas come to life. In healthcare, the “how“ is often just as hard as building the science, technology, or product itself. Driving meaningful change requires coordination and buy-in from stakeholders across the ecosystem—providers, health systems, payers, biopharma, and beyond.  One of the things I love most about this space is that innovation can’t happen in a vacuum. The most impactful healthcare startups deeply understand this, building with collaboration at their core. That’s why last week’s Annual TMV Care Dinner felt so special. We brought together a tremendous group of founders, limited partners, co-investors, industry leaders, journalists, and experts for an evening of thoughtful conversation, connection, and partnership. We had an incredible time, and now comes the best part: seeing what takes shape from here. Grateful to everyone who joined – TMV portfolio founders (Roon, Novellia, Fabric Health, Tali AI, Weave, In-House Health, Elion, Banquet Health, Tinyhood, Inc., Ours Privacy and more), LPs, and collaborators – thanks for making it a great night.  A special thank you to our wonderful partners at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and team TMV: Soraya Darabi Marina Hadjipateras Azzi Agnelli Timothy Shey Darshan Somashekar Evan Wray Bailey DeVries Joshua Gold Justin Kazmark David Waldman Sean Villafranca.  Sharing a few moments captured by the talented Karen Obrist. Looking forward to keeping this conversation going.

We are beyond happy to announce that Emma Silverman has been promoted to Partner at TMV ! Since joining TMV in 2021, Emma has been instrumental in shaping and growing our firm. Her unparalleled operational experience—gained at Bain & Co., where she worked in the Private Equity group and developed strategies for Fortune 500 companies—has been a cornerstone of her success. Delighted to finally announce the launch of TMV : Lifecycles, a stand-alone fund we are spearheading alongside our partner Azzi Agnelli to champion early stage companies confronting the global mental health crisis. Mental well-being is at the core of every facet of life, yet solutions addressing its root causes remain critically underfunded. This gap represents both a significant market opportunity and a powerful lever for positive systemic change. The companies we’ve backed so far are nothing short of inspiring — Banquet Health, Millie, Novellia, Resultid.ai, and Slingshot AI. And this is just the start... Read about our journey in ImpactAlpha and the Financial Times. If you share our vision for improving mental well-being globally, we’d love to hear from you.  care@tmv.vc #MentalHealth #ImpactInvesting #tmv #trailblazers https://lnkd.in/eZ-fYKiP

Impact Investor | Mental Health Advocate | General Partner, TMV Lifecycles

Hi everyone, I am so very proud to announce TMV: Lifecycles - a new fund I’ve created alongside my partners at TMV, years in the making, born from my academic research, clinical studies, and investment experience. In an age of anxiety, we're betting on hope. Recent data shows young people in 2024 feel twice as much hope as discouragement about the future, with two-thirds describing themselves as "highly optimistic." This optimism drives our first vertically-focused fund. TMV: Lifecycles focuses on mental well-being through compassionate technology. Since the pandemic, we've seen mental health challenges reach epidemic levels. But we refuse to stand by. Instead, we're taking courageous action. Our portfolio companies are already making waves: Daylight Health integrates insurance-covered mental healthcare into primary care. Slingshot AI is developing a groundbreaking foundation model for AI therapy, democratising access to care Banquet Health Driving operational efficiency for food in hospitals while championing food as medicine, ensuring patients eat well while getting well. Novellia is a data interoperability platform, empowering patients and clinicians through data access and actionable insights. Millie is a modern, tech-enabled maternity clinic designed by moms and healthcare providers, integrating collaborative care, mental health support and midwifery care alongside a patient community. We invest across life's journey, recognizing that each stage brings unique challenges to heart and mind. Our approach is optimistic realism - acknowledging challenges while innovating solutions. The momentum is building. Morgan Stanley recently highlighted mental well-being as a strategic investment opportunity, and The Financial Times featured TMV: Lifecycles in the growing landscape of mental health innovation. This is bigger than just a fund - it's a movement. We welcome founders, investors, and supporters who share our vision of creating better mental health solutions for all. Join us in this vital mission. Reach out to learn more about how we're building a healthier tomorrow, together. Partner at TMV investing in the Future of Care

Something I’ve been thinking about: when should founders hire generalists vs. specialists? It’s a question we hear all the time at TMV The truth is, both are essential to building, scaling, and running a company. Specialists bring deep expertise. They’re indispensable for driving focused initiatives and tackling complex challenges as a business grows. But in the early days - when you’re building the plane while flying it - it’s often generalists who create the foundation that makes everything else possible. At TMV, and during my years as an operator, I’ve seen firsthand how the early generalists founders bring onboard drive so much value. They bring: - Flexibility across functions when a team can’t afford “heads of” for everything. - Clarity out of chaos, with cross-functional visibility and a ruthless ability to prioritize. - Incredible problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn fast and operate independently. The “early generalist” can have a lot of different titles - Chief of Staff, GTM, Strategy & Ops, BizOps, even Founder. But whatever their title, they’re the ones who hold things together in the fast-moving early stages. And they build the structure that eventually allows specialists to do their thing. Lately, I’ve been thinking about building a generalist talent pool - a network of adaptable, problem-solving professionals who can jump in and help startups get off the ground. Still an idea, but I’d love to hear your take. And if you know any great generalists, tag them!
