About us

AFI, in collaboration with SGR, exists to help local government officials anticipate change and adapt to it proactively. The program focuses on foresight, innovation, cultural development, and collaboration. Member benefits include: *Access to key trends influencing the future *Information and tools that allow the anticipation of change before it happens with scenarios that illuminate how critical issues may play out over the coming decade *Ability to explore strategies for managing change proactively *Access to a community of like-minded peers *Access to innovative new technology and access to pilot studies *Membership in a culture of innovation with organizational access to webinars, book clubs, forums, and more AFI membership features a variety of reports, presentations, and interactive sessions that are designed to make information accessible, useful, and engaging.

  • We are excited to announce that the AFI Board has hired Troy Riggs as the new Executive Director of AFI effective January 1, 2025. Over the last few years, Troy has been a facilitator and recruiter at SGR; prior to that, his long career in public service has included Public Safety Director and Chief of Police in Denver, CO; Public Safety Director in Indianapolis, IN; and both Police Chief and then Assistant City Manager in Corpus Christi, TX. As a public servant, Troy developed a reputation for applying business principles to the governmental budgeting process, enhancing operational efficiencies, and saving taxpayers millions. Known for the thoughtful and forward-thinking concepts he brought to government service, he consistently worked to build relationships between government officials and non-profits, church leaders, and philanthropic groups to address the underlying issues of troubled communities. Help us welcome Troy to the AFI team!
