If you’re operating a forklift, doing so safely protects not just yourself, but everyone around you. These tips can help safely manage loads: *Raising and lowering: Only raise or lower the load when the forklift is stopped, and the brake is set. Ensure there is enough overhead clearance before raising the load. *Travel: Travel in reverse if the load blocks your vision. Use horns at cross aisles and obstructed areas. Always wear your seat belt!

Our monthly safety focus is on hand washing … and yes, there is a right way to perform this basic hygienic practice. *Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap. *Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. *Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice. *Rinse your hands well under clean, running water. *Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer.

Our monthly safety focus is on hand washing. Though it might seem obvious, many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running water. Hands should be washed regularly, especially after using the restroom or handling food. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or paper towel when coughing or sneezing. Stay home if you feel sick or have symptoms of illness.

Early in your career, did you ever feel frustrated by having to do “menial” work you might have bristled at … only to find that it set you up for success later? Suggested by Jason L. Our safety focus is on using equipment properly. Never take shortcuts or use equipment for purposes other than their intended uses. Proper use of equipment is vital for safety, efficiency and productivity. 1) Maintain equipment: Proper equipment maintenance reduces risks of accidents or damage. 2) Be conscious of blind spots: When operating heavy equipment, be sure no one is near the equipment or its attachments. 3) Ensure machinery is operating correctly: Pay close attention to a machine’s operation, and that all machine guards are in place and functioning. Safety is everyone's business ... and in all our best interests!
