At Cognizant TriZetto, we’ve always centered our generative AI efforts around the concept of an “agent.” Already, we have several AI agents within our products -- for example those designed to help assist with claims processing in our core platforms or those built to retrieve useful state-specific information for government solutions users. These agents rely on skills, which are essentially APIs, to provide compliant, secure access to data and business rules. This kind of agent model is extensible too. We can ‘invent’ a new skill in the field as required, to allow an agent to access data or rules within other enterprise systems. Many of our agents were in the spotlight at last year’s Cognizant Health Sciences Conference underpinning the various TriZetto digital assistants. As we set our sights on this year’s conference, we have begun evaluating the promise of agentic AI as a more autonomous brand of artificial intelligence, one that can plan and execute tasks, solve problems and adapt to a dynamic and changing environment without human intervention. In addition to its inherent skills, an agentic architecture allows independent cooperation among different AI agents. Once you let agents start talking to each other, it’s not long until they’ll start ‘approving’ each other’s tasks. Our regulated industry will have to take a measured approach, at least in terms of core administration. Most of our clients continue to push for keeping a human in the loop and we have accommodated that. Through our embedded assistant, each of our product users remains firmly in control, and supported with a single agent behind the scenes. That human-led distinction will set AI assistants apart from their agentic AI counterparts. These AI agents will be defined as networks of autonomous agents used to solve complex problems by focusing on collaboration, decentralized control, and emergent behaviors. Unlike assistive AI, which often responds to single interactions, agentic AI can perceive, reason, act and learn from its environment to execute tasks independently. The end goal is to improve productivity within the enterprise.  Agents can complement a user’s work, simplifying tasks like data retrieval and summarization while performing supervised automation. Agentic AI architectures provide additional opportunity for productivity gains by completing tasks autonomously, on behalf of many users, with little to no supervision. TriZetto will be showcasing the advances of our generative AI platform at our annual Health Sciences Conference at the end of May, where we host hundreds of attendees from payer and provider organizations. We hope you’ll join us there as we share proof-of-concept results and our latest thinking on an agentic-architecture solution -- a future vision in which agents are delegating tasks to other virtual agents, within a secure and compliant environment.
