Sad news to share: Visit Indy's former CEO Bill McGowan passed away this week.   McGowan was CEO of the then-Indianapolis Convention Visitor Association (ICVA) from 1984 to 2002 after a career in banking. He championed Indy before, during, and long after his nearly two decades running the DMO.    His legacy includes: - Helping secure the 1982 National Sports Festival and the 1987 Pan American Games. - Playing a key role in the development of the Hoosier Dome and bringing the Indianapolis Colts to Indy, and in bringing the NCAA HQ to Indy as well its first Men's Final Four here in 1980. - Rallying support for White River State Park, Circle Centre Mall, the expansion of the Indiana Convention Center and the development of then-Conseco Fieldhouse. - Growing Indy's convention and tourism business dramatically, bringing many new citywide events to the city, including annual groups like the Fire Department Instructors Conference.   He was a four-time recipient (from four different governors) of the Indiana’s highest award, the Sagamore of the Wabash. Visit Indy's highest award is named for Bill - the Bill McGowan Leadership Award, which has been awarded to former WNBA player Tamika Catchings (2022), David Letterman (2020), Peyton Manning (2019) and more. CloserStill Media's New York Vet 2024, held Nov. 7–8 at Javits Center, drew 2,300 veterinary professionals, compared with 1,800 in 2023—a 21% increase in attendance year over year. With 52% of delegates attending for the first time, the trade show floor featured 200 suppliers and continuing-education content across eight theaters. At the Novo theater at L.A. Live on Monday, Dec. 16, TSNN hosted the 14th Annual TSNN Awards, a joint awards program that was co-located with International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) for the first time in 2024. Thousands of industry professionals were in attendance as the event was held during the first hour of the opening reception of IAEE’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition, Expo! Expo! As part of a three-year partnership, both organizations planned and executed the star-studded event—complete with a living red carpet, awards presentation from the main stage at the Novo, food and drinks, and live entertainment.
