Many families who come to Tuesday’s Child are struggling intensely. Despite their best efforts, their children often have difficulty meeting social and behavioral expectations, leading to challenges at school or daycare. In some cases, this results in children being asked to leave their preschool or daycare setting, creating a cascade of stress within the family. But there is hope. Parents like Kristin have found the help and community they need at Tuesday’s Child. Tuesday’s Child is addressing critical mental health challenges and early school expulsion in the Chicagoland area. Every day, families turn to us not only to find help for their children but also to build a sense of community with others facing similar struggles. Take the story of Gisella and her grandson Khalil. Before joining the Tuesday’s Child program, Khalil struggled with aggressive behaviors, had difficulty connecting with other children, and found it hard to follow directions. His challenges were affecting both his learning and his relationships. Since enrolling in our program, Khalil’s transformation has been incredible. He can now focus on activities for longer periods, listens more, follows directions, and has made new friends. The aggressive behaviors have decreased, and he’s thriving. For Gisella, who comes from a low-income, Spanish-speaking household, Tuesday’s Child’s Familias Felices program has been a lifesaver. The program is culturally sensitive, affordable, and provides the support she needed to help Khalil succeed.
