Our way of life is evolving, and our buildings must adapt. Changing habits and the drive for efficiency have seen commercial vacancy rates rise, leaving many cities with an oversupply of office and retail space. While our urban centers are getting smarter, this growing dependency on digital technology is rapidly fueling our demand for power and data. 💡 To solve this challenge, we must recognize the potential of existing buildings to meet the needs of a changing society at a city scale. Our choices today will define the way our cities work for generations. In his article, TYLin’s Kirk Mettam explains how, by thinking differently and taking a systems-level approach to adaptive reuse, we can achieve better-performing assets and shape cities that are better equipped to meet the needs of tomorrow. 🔗 Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eBj3tGwF TYLin Introba Currie & Brown #Sidara #SustainableCities #AdaptiveReuse #AdaptiveRedesign #Retrofit #StrandedAssets #SmartBuildings #WashingtonDC

Yale students will be inspired to greater heights of creative expression in the spectacularly restored Yale University Schwartzman Center, the institution's first campus-wide student center. The two Beaux-Arts style buildings, built in 1901, were originally designed by Carrère and Hastings and were known as University Commons and Memorial Hall. Newly reinforced, the soaring vaulted ceilings are supported by exposed heavy timber trusses, and capable of confidently holding catwalks, theatrical rigging points, and other equipment – transforming this historic dining hall into a space fit for modern performances of dance, theater, music, fashion, and art.
