It's the end of an era with John Staples announcing his retirement recently. He was an integral part of the development of Tyrewise and his 44-year career at Bridgestone New Zealand is a testament to his dedication to the industry. We wish him all the best for his upcoming retirement in March next year.

One of the metrics we track live on our website is how many tonnes of end-of-life tyres are being used as 'tyre-derived fuel' - but what does that mean? Well, Golden Bay uses end-of-life tyres and wood waste instead of coal when creating EcoSure, the lowest embodied-carbon cement in Aotearoa. Doing this doesn't just reduce its carbon emissions, it also reduces iron sand use by up to 35%. You can read more about Golden Bay's cement processing below.

It's great to hear from our collection partner Palmerston North City Council that they're seeing a decrease in illegally dumped tyres since residents can now drop off up to five tyres at a time for fee at their collection site. Find your nearest collection site here https://lnkd.in/g9EWd9dH
We've collected nearly 3,000 tyres to be recycled since 1 September! 😮 Thanks to the Tyrewise Produce Stewardship Scheme, people can now drop up to five tyres to us for free to be recycled. Since the scheme started, we have seen a massive increase in the number of tyres dropped off to us and a significant decrease in the number of tyres illegally dumped. These tyres are later taken to Cambridge to be shredded and used to make artificial turf, roads, gym floors and playground mats. ❤️ For more info about free tyre recycling in Palmy, head to our website: https://lnkd.in/gMBPY_S4
