Interested in hearing firsthand from industry stakeholders about how to engage with them? Want to learn about financial strategies that worked for fellow entrepreneurs? If so, this virtual workshop, Developing a Strategic Cap Table, is for you! PPT, XLS and video replay are available. The workshop opened with Anthony Schiavo from Lux Research providing an overview on the status of net-zero implementation within the oil & gas, utilities, and chemical industries. Then (29.30), Dave McCarthy discussed cap table management aimed at helping startups understand the impact of dilution and the whos, whens and whys when thinking about taking outside funds. His presentation concluded (1:10.30) with DOE SBIR/STTR awardees (Etosha Cave, Twelve and Chris Faranetta, Near Star Fusion) sharing their financial strategies. After a short break, the workshop continued (1:45.00) with a series of reverse pitches from industry stakeholders (Clean Energy Ventures, United Airlines Ventures – Sustainable Flight Fund, Honda Xcelerator Ventures, GC Ventures and BASF Venture Capital). The workshop concluded with these stakeholders sharing their perspectives on best practices for engaging with venture groups. (Slides | Excel | Video available on website)

The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) in the Department of Energy has announced its first SBIR program and issued a pre-solicitation to fund up to $30 million for up to seven Pilot-scale Rapid Operational Validation of Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (PROVE IT) projects: OCED eXCHANGE: Funding Opportunities   This program will support small businesses conducting operational validation of a pilot-scale project before it can be deemed ready for a large-scale demonstration or commercialization and deployment. Activities include integrating, operating, and testing existing pilot systems under industrial-relevant conditions. Key aspects of the program include using a simplified R&D procurement mechanism, an application process that’s streamlined and reduces the burden on applicants. The program focuses on technical as well as commercialization and adoption goals. Topic Areas will be Point Source Carbon Capture & Long-Duration Energy Storage.
