This year, thanks to all of our generous donors, we will be bringing gifts to over 125 isolated and lonely seniors in our community. Additionally, we have adopted all 80 residents of Southtowns Care Center in Buffalo. They will each receive a gift bag with new sleepwear, a blanket, stuffed animal, word search book, lotion and more. Our Simple Wishes for the Holidays campaign reminds seniors that they are not forgotten. 💗
About us
Our Mission is to foster respect and appreciation for seniors by granting life enriching wishes. The Senior Wishes story began in 2013, when ideas were being discussed on how the United Church Home Society might best serve the senior citizen population of Western New York. UCHS, founder of Fox Run at Orchard Park and the United Church Manor in West Seneca, was looking for a program that could bring real value to the aged. Wendy Miller Backman had volunteered with a small wish program years earlier and began describing it to Mike Maloney, CEO of Fox Run Orchard Park and UCHS Inc. Mike and Wendy began a series of brainstorming sessions and much research, and realized that although there were a handful of these wish programs throughout the country, none existed in Western NY. Mike, having an extensive knowledge in the field of aging, felt there was a real need that Senior Wishes could fulfill. Our first wish was granted March 7, 2014 to Grace Festa. Her wish was to work with a professional photographer who could teach her about lighting, composition and camera operations. Senior Wishes partnered with Katie Schneider Photography to make this wish come true. Since then, the organization has granted many wishes to seniors, such as: travel to reunite with family and friends; take part in a sporting or cultural event; provided supplies for hobbies or past times; or planned events to celebrate milestone birthdays or anniversaries. Senior Wishes has expanded programming to include *Remembering a Senior on Valentine's Day - goody bags distributed to care facilities *Hero Boxes to Veterans - patriotic boxes delivered to senior veterans *Simple Wishes for the Holidays - recognizing not all seniors enjoy the holidays when they are isolated and lonely. Gift giving program to hundreds of seniors each year. Whether it's a simple need or a bucket list wish, Senior Wishes strives to make a difference in the lives of local seniors.

We finished our Veterans Appreciation "HERO Box" Campaign this week! We recognized a record 150 Veterans this year, including 11 WWII Veterans and Four Purple Heart recipients. Listening to these men and women share their stories of their remarkable service deepens our appreciation for their sacrifices. We thank all of our sponsors and volunteers who are so critical to this program. The crafts and cards made by children were so appreciated. Below is a small sampling of some of our honored Veterans!

Each year Senior Wishes distributes hundreds of gifts in December as part of our "Simple Wishes for the Holidays" campaign. The goal of this program is to reach lonely and isolated seniors without family, and for whom the holidays may be a difficult time. Seniors must meet our income guidelines and be over 65. They may ask for a gift they want/need up to $50 and we will put the gifts on a public Amazon Wish List, where are generous supporters may purchase them. We will then add blankets, stuffed animals and puzzle books to their gift bags and have a volunteer visit with them. The deadline to nominate a senior is November 15th! We recently granted a wish to 101 years young Mary (on left). We met her when we celebrated National Senior Citizen's Day. Her simple wish was to visit with a dear friend who she hadn't seen in years. Our volunteer Barb brought Mary to Grand Island where these two life long friends shared lunch and many memories. Mary brought a photo album from her 100th birthday and they both shared family pictures, over a three hour visit. Mary was so excited to have her wish granted! Senior Wishes...bringing joy to these two friends who had no way to connect with each other in person! For more information and application go to www.seniorwishes.org
