February may be coming to a close, but it’s been a busy month for IC3! 🔹 AI in Clinical Care Workshop We kicked off the month with our annual AI in Clinical Care Workshop. Participants gained hands-on experience in training AI models, structuring clinical datasets, and leveraging AI for real-world medical applications. Through interactive sessions, they explored how AI can enhance diagnostics and support clinical decision-making. 🔹 AI Collaboratory Hub Later in the month, we hosted our second AI Collaboratory Hub, where members presented research ideas and explored new partnerships. The hub continues to be a space for collaboration, fostering discussions that drive innovation in AI and healthcare. 🔹 Journal Club This month’s Journal Club was led by Divya Vellanki, who introduced CRAFT-MD, a framework for evaluating LLMs in clinical settings. She explained how it simulates doctor-patient interactions to assess reasoning, history-taking, and diagnostic accuracy. Divya emphasized the need for more rigorous testing to ensure AI can safely and effectively support clinical decision-making. 🔹 UF College of Medicine Research Celebration IC3 had the opportunity to participate in the UF College of Medicine Office of Research 15th Annual Celebration of Research. Through an interactive Digital Twin display, we showed attendees our AI-enabled Intelligent Virtual ICU and discussed how it can streamline clinical decision-making! #UFMedResearch

Acute kidney injury is a complex disease with diverse clinical outcomes, and current approaches to managing it are often generalized. By leveraging AI and machine learning techniques to identify specific subphenotypes, we seek to enable more personalized and effective treatments to ultimately improve patient outcomes. Our publication led by Anjay P. Shah, addresses the variability in subphenotype identification and the need for better validation in diverse populations. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/eXKedvvU

Electronic health records (EHRs) can significantly enhance medical practices with a centralized and comprehensive patient data source. However, the full potential of EHRs stay limited by poor data quality and inconsistent performance assessments. A systematic review of 26 studies found incomplete reporting (30%), poor replicability (25%), and limited generalizability (25%) in existing research for data quality. Our review highlights the need for standardized and incentivized data quality to drive better AI health practices and achieve the utmost capabilities of EHRs in medical research. Join us in our scoping review with senior author, Dr. Azra Bihorac, calling to resolve data quality issues and advance healthcare: https://lnkd.in/eeVkzC3A
