Today I visited a field demonstration of CISBOT in action! “What on earth is a CISBOT?”, I hear you ask. It’s a Cast Iron Joint Sealing Robot 🤖! Basically, it seals leaking joints of old iron pipes (the one in Northampton where I went was 112 years old!) from the inside. This comes with a range of benefits: ⬇️It reduces leakage of methane to the atmosphere 🚗🚌🚚 It reduces impact from streetworks in cities, requiring less holes in the ground 💰 It saves time and money Thank you to ULC Technologies and David McLeod for inviting me to a very interesting morning. It was fascinating to see how the pilot and co-pilot skillfully manouvered the CISBOT under ground, and how it emerged from the launch tower. Our newly expanded CISBOT technology for 12” internal cast iron joint sealing has now been deployed in the US and UK to support critical infrastructure upgrades and prevent leaks. The 12” CISBOT robot was first deployed in Massachusetts where it sealed 59 joints, and the technology is now in the UK delivering the first 12” project in Northampton. "This project is just one example of how ULC’ s ongoing collaborative efforts between Field Ops and Engineering leads to success," says Ryan McGowan, VP Operations at ULC Technologies.
