Dr. Karim Sapag presented CEME seminar titled “Highlights in the Textural Characterization of Nanoporous Solids Through Gas Adsorption”. Dr. Sapag is a professor at National University of San Luis, Argentina. He is also a Superior Investigator at the National Council of Research in Argentina (CONICET). His research interests include studying and developing nanoporous solids for different applications usingadsorption and catalysis.

We were thrilled to welcome over 80 participants from academia, industry, and government agencies to our three-day event from January 8 to 10 at the University of Miami. Together, we explored fascinating topics like nanoparticle characterization, nanotechnology, biomass burning aerosols, and indoor air quality. A special highlight of the workshop was the hands-on demonstrations of advanced aerosol characterization techniques, showcasing cutting-edge instrumentation. CEME faculty members Chang-Yu Wu, Dibyendu Mukherjee, and Pratim Biswas spoke at the Nanomaterials Workshop at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar . The workshop highlighted topics including functional nanoparticle synthesis, health effects of nanomaterials, and the fundamentals of nanoparticles.
The Nanomaterials Workshop organized by the University of Miami College of Engineering and Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar addressed the latest developments and future challenges in the field of nanotechnology. Thanks to great presentations by Prannoy Suraneni Ashu Agarwal Francesco Travascio Dibyendu Mukherjee Chang-Yu Wu Pratim Biswas and several colleagues ( Kabeer Jasuja Kaustubh Rane and others) from IITGN. An innovative partnership and collaborative action was planned, and we look forward to great outcomes.

Happy to announce that CEME will host the AAEES Kappe Lecture on March 28, 2025, at the University of Miami! This year's Kappe Lecture will be given by Dr. Craig H. Benson, PhD, PE, BCGE, BCEE, NAE. His lecture title is "Elevated Temperature Landfills: Causation, Impacts, and Best Management Practices Learned from the Field". We are currently developing the lecture program to attract a broader audience in South Florida who are interested in solid waste management.
