Sending a big congratulations to Dr. Johanna Seddon, Professor and Interim Chair of Opthalmology and Visual Sciences at UMass Memorial Medical Center, who was recently awarded the 2024 Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) Scientific Contribution Award for her major contributions to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery, treatment, research and patient care. The WIO Scientific Contribution Award honors members who are involved in ophthalmic research, have made advancements in their field and who have shown outstanding promise in this endeavor. I recently had the privilege of addressing the quarterly all hands meeting of the UMass Memorial Health Information Services team under the leadership of Robin Sodano, Senior Vice President. I was pleased to provide an overview of UMass Memorial Medical Group and our dedicated, multispecialty network of more than 1,300 providers and close to 700 advanced practice providers (APPs) across our Medical Group and UMass Memorial Medical Center who serve Central Massachusetts. I described our unrelenting commitment to patients, outlined our goals, and shared our efforts to recruit, retain, develop, and celebrate our incredible caregiving professionals. Finally, I thanked our talented IS team for all they do providing technical support for UMass Memorial Health Care, including applications, telecommunications, networks, devices, and so much more.
What a huge and very meaningful honor — thank you, American Medical Association! The well-being of our physicians is of the utmost importance to us.

Our cardiologist and Director of Nuclear and CT Imaging, has been selected to participate in the highly regarded Women as One CLIMB program. This prestigious initiative aims to advance the careers of women in cardiology by providing specialized training in complex cardiovascular diseases.
Congrats to Dr. Shruti Hegde — UMass Memorial Medical Center cardiologist and Director of Nuclear and CT Imaging — who has been selected to participate in the highly regarded Women as One CLIMB program! This prestigious initiative aims to advance the careers of women in cardiology by providing specialized training in complex cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Hegde will focus on heart failure and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy — a condition caused by protein buildup in the heart making it harder to pump blood effectively. Through her participation in the CLIMB program, she is furthering her mission to drive innovation and awareness in cardiac amyloidosis, with the goal of advancing both research and clinical care.
