🚨 The war in #Sudan has created the largest displacement crisis in the world. Women and girls are trapped in a relentless nightmare of violence. Forced to flee their homes to seek safety and finding themselves on the move or living in insecure accommodation, they are at alarming risk of sexual violence. They desperately need protection, and survivors of violence need support. The @UNFPA is working tirelessly to meet the needs of women and girls who have survived rape and other horrific ordeals. In Sudan and neighbouring countries - including #Chad and the #CentralAfricanRepublic - we’re supporting midwives who are trained to work in crises and emergencies. They help survivors of violence, both physically and psychologically. Some of the areas in most severe need however remain cut off entirely, with no access to humanitarian aid. All parties to the conflict must facilitate safe, rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access to reach all those in desperate need by land, by sea, by air. #KeepEyesOnSudan and learn more about how we’re helping women and girls impacted by the humanitarian crisis: https://unf.pa/amp Photos: © UNFPA/Karel Prinsloo

⚠️ Ukrainians have now been enduring Russia’s full-scale invasion for three years. Pregnant women, especially those living closer to frontline zones, continue to suffer the consequences on their journey to #motherhood. For instance, in #Kharkiv they’ve endured relentless shelling and rocket attacks since the onset of the full-scale invasion. Stress related to the conflict is believed to be contributing to a higher rate of premature births in some of these frontline areas. The highest is in #Kherson, where around 1 in 10 babies were born prematurely, almost double the national average. The Kherson region also has the highest stillbirth rate in #Ukraine. To help reduce this stress and improve the health of pregnant women and their newborns, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is supporting the construction of two specialist underground, bomb-proof maternal and newborn health units; one in Kherson and one in Kharkiv. These bomb-proof maternity wards will ensure that women can give birth in safer conditions despite ongoing attacks. 🚨 Women and girls are experiencing staggering rates of gender-based violence, including conflict-related sexual violence, in the latest outbreak of fighting that has engulfed the eastern Democratic Republic of the #Congo (DRC). They need access to medical services, psychosocial support and safe passage to secure locations to escape the violence.
